Laptop or Desktop? Laptop

My budget for the new computer is: $700 max

What are the primary uses for this computer (IE: mail, web browsing, programming, games, etc)? Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, Social media, Light gaming

What software do you intend on using on the computer? Microsoft Office

Do you play games? If so, what type of games? Maybe Rome total war, The Sims

Do you tend to have a lot of programs running at the same time, or do you close every program when you are done using it? Have a lot running, multiple tabs open

Do you store a lot of pictures or music on the computer? No

Will you be overclocking? No idea what that is

Location for online shopping/shipment/prices? Wisconsin

How many monitors are you planning to use? 1

Do you need peripherals? OS? No idea what that is

Any particular reason why you are upgrading?

I have a 5 year old Acer Aspire that now has a battery life of about 45 mins. I have been very happy with Acer. have 2 picked out on amazon but need opinions n if the extra money is worth it as I have no idea what any of these specs mean. I want this to last at least 4 more years.

Any help/ opinions are appreciated I need to get the most for my money.

The Acer looks to be pretty good actually. That Nvidia 940M will be leagues better than the integrated intel 5500 graphics the Dell has. The Acer will have no problem handeling the Sim games and the Rom Total war. Maybe not on full graphics but it should play it non the less.
Seems to have good reviews as well. If it were me I would choose the Acer.

I am leaning toward the Acer but would love any input.  Is this one better than the Acer? it seems pretty comparable.
