I just found for the second time a reference to "Spambot".  Then it occurred to me that I've seen an Icon (like a PC monitor)" that had "Spambot" written on it when browsing offline here in BC.  Below it said something like "Vote for no ads in this forum"  When I clicked on it, it said something like "You have to sign in to vote", so I logged into BC ... then it disappeared.

I've been 'had', haven't I?

Can you provide a link to where you saw this please ?

There is an entity called 'Spambot' as part of the site structure and its security system but I didn't know it was visible anywhere !

I think it's probably AdBot, which shows the adverts that support the website, to users that are not logged in:

http://www.bleepstatic.com/images/site/forum/bots/bot.jpg  You are right, but it says AdBot.  Shows up when not logged in ... login and its gone.  If you click it takes you to registration.  Sorry for the false alarm, but the sky IS falling!

One of the benefits of having a registered account is not seeing any ads. So if you do not log in you will see ads posted by the site 'adbot'. Once you log in as has already been mentioned, the ads disappear.

We do like to be notified of deceptive or fraudulent ads. BleepingComputer has limited control over what ads are shown. We will do our best to address bad ads being displayed. In as timely a manner as possible.

If you do find a fraudulent or deceptive ad, please take a screenshot if possible. Note the time of day or night you saw the ad and what the content was. Post that information as a new topic in this forum. We will look into addressing the matter.

Thank You.
