On of my gmail accounts starts with the letter "B" and today when I began to type it in another unknown email address appeared as an option in the autofill dropdown.

  • I am the only owner of this computer. (it is not a relic from a previous user)
  • There is no other person with access to my laptop.
  • I regularly clean my computer with ccleaner, which includes autofill entries.
  • The only mention of this on google search was regarding chrome, I am using the latest firefox browser.

Am I infected?  Is this something to worry about?

Hi HijackThat,

Sorry for the delay in responding to your post.

It's probably not something to worry about. Gmail keeps a list of email addresses from people that send you email (even unsolicited), and people who you send email to. You can try signing out of Gmail, and then clear your browser's cache and log back in. This should fix any problems with the auto-complete dropdown.

If you're really concerned your Gmail account has been compromised, you can change your Gmail password.

Regards,
Jason
