Hello, this is my first time on the forum and hoping you can help me. I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 3 weeks ago and everything was going fine until the latest update. Since then I've had my laptop lock up a few times making a loud buzzing sound and then it goes to the BSOD.

It is Windows 10 64-bit x64

Laptop is Dell XPS L502X (manufactured in 2012)

Processor Intel ® Core™ i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz

Graphics Nvidia GEForce GT 540M

I've attached the sysnative and perfmon files.

I'm afraid it may have to do with the Nvidia GEForce but not sure where to go from there.

Thanks in advance.

BTW, I tried running Driver verifier but my PC crashed and I had to go back to the restore point.

Please zip up the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump and upload it with your next post.

If you have problems zipping it up, copy it to your Desktop and zip it up there.

If you have been using a program like CCleaner, the Driver Verifier memory dumps may have been deleted.

If that's the case, run Driver Verifier again (using these instructions:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html )

Then zip up the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump and upload it with your next post.

Please uninstall McAfee.  It's showing that it's having problems in the perfmon report.

Please be sure to activate Windows Defender and Windows Firewall once it's uninstalled.
Should you want to reinstall McAfee, please wait until the system has been stabilized - and then download and install the latest, Win10 compatible version.

Also uninstall HitmanPro and MalwareBytes.  Only have one of these programs (to include McAfee and Windows Defender) running in memory at the same time.

Your UEFI/BIOS (version A10) dates from 2012.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.

Many Live Kernel Events in the WER section of MSINFO32 - please generate this report:

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Many SkyDriveClient errors in the WER section of MSINFO32.

There are compatibility problems with this program and it's likely not to even work on W10 ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39050 )

Please uninstall it immediately.

Multiple problems with devmonsrv.exe, mediasrv.exe, and obexsrv.exe

These are most likely bluetooth programs and are probably not W10 compatible

Please uninstall them.

The lone memory dump blames the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers.

Have you updated them to the latest, W10 version?

If not, check at http://downloadcenter.intel.com for W10 compatible versions.
If not available there, then try the Dell support site for the latest, W10 compatible version

There were 2 of these errors in the WER section of MSINFO32 (8/21 and 8/26).

There were 9 errors on 8/20 and 8/21 pointing to your video

And there was 1 error pointing to your networking on 8/18

Interestingly, there are no memory dumps for any of these.  Have you been cleaning the system with a program like CCleaner?  If so, please stop while we're troubleshooting.

Beyond this, as there was only 1 memory dump in the upload, I have these suggestions:
1.  Get ALL available Windows Updates.  It may take several trips to get them all
2.  Get ALL available, Win10 compatible updates from the manufacturer's website.
3.  Start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Please have a look at the list of drivers below and note those that are older.  In general, anything from 2014 or earlier doesn't stand a very good chance of being compatible w/W10.

I would strongly suggest updating those programs to W10 compatible versions.

OK, after all this I'm considering going back to Windows 7. The Windows 10 update said my laptop was compatible but foolishly I didn't check the Dell page which says that it hasn't been tested for Windows 10. I would like your opinion.

My next door neighbor purchased a brand new Dell laptop (w/W10) a couple of days after Win10 came out.
I went to the website to check for updates to his UEFI/driver and found, to my amazement, that it wasn't certified for W10 either.

FYI - we have a lot of problems at work with updates to W10 - mostly due to attempting to update older systems.

Then, the revert to the older OS will also fail.

We find that the most successful updates are those done of freshly installed copies of Windows

Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

Interestingly enough, I haven't had any problems in the last 2 days. As long as I don't try to play Minecraft or do anything with the Nvidia GeForce Experience program I seem to be OK (although I was able to play right after I upgraded and until the last update downloaded). Nvidia tells me I have an update to download but I haven't tried it again since it crashed the last time.

I don't know why the dump files aren't being generated as I do not have a cleaner program.

Since I have until the 8th to go back to Windows 7 I'm going to try to see if I can get this cleaned up. On the Dell forum there are some people with the same type of laptop who say they aren't having any trouble even though Dell isn't certifying it for Windows 10. Maybe they were smart enough, unlike me, to update or remove some stuff before trying to upgrade.

I see there is a Bios update available from Dell but I'm afraid to do it after what you said. What did you mean by "if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting."? Does that mean that if the computer restarts after installation it may not reboot?

Since I couldn't upload the files (it told me I'm not permitted), I've uploaded them to file dropper.

http://www.filedropper.com/admin

http://www.filedropper.com/082615-41156-01

I was unable to find SkyDrive, devmonsrv.exe, mediasrv.exe, and obexsrv.exe to uninstall them. Where would they be? I even did a search and the only thing I came up with was where they were mentioned in the sysnative and perfmon files.

First off, the reason that you couldn't upload the files was because they weren't zipped up.

One was a .RAR file, while the other was a .DMP

BIOS updates are dangerous if you don't do them right.  If done right there's no problem - but a single tiny mistake can physically damage the BIOS chip on the motherboard.
That's why the caution.  Doing it within Windows is usually safer as the program builds in safeguards to prevent you from making mistakes.

BIOS/UEFI updates are crucial for W8/8.1/10 - but aren't as crucial for W7

I'd suggest posting over in the OS forums for assistance with the outdated programs.  Or you could simply install W7 clean, update to SP1, then install W10 - without adding anything extra.

Please reregister your apps:  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/re-register-windows-store-apps

Memory dump blames the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver.  Please update this.  First try

You have MalwareBytes, McAfee, and HitmanPro all running at the same time.
A sure recipe for problems.  Uninstall all but one.  Only run one antivirus and one firewall at a time.
