Hello,

We are experiencing a known issue between Microsoft Office 2013 and Server 2012 R2 - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2996807

Basically, when selecting a printer on the R2 server from Microsoft Office 2013, it crashes regularly.

Two questions:

1) Has anyone else experienced this and can offer some advice how to resolve?

2) When I tried tried to run the hotfix, it simply said "not applicable to this computer".  I assume this is because there is only a hotfix for windows 8?  Or is there any way I can obtain the 2012 R2 hotfix?

Side note:  I have ran all the latest Important Windows Updates on R2, so hopefully the prerequisite should already be installed.

Thanks,

2995388 October 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (This will ensure the Server is up to date)

To apply this hotfix, you must have update 2919355 installed in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.

For more information about how to obtain update 2919355, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

2919355 Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update: April 2014
Now try the hot fix again.

Thanks for the response.

I did try this, still no joy.  I think the issue is that the hotfix is only for windows 8.  Is there anywhere else I can try and find a 2012 RT hotfix?

Thanks

What happens when you add \\server01\ in explorer, right click and connect to printer (If the printer is shared) and then double click after that and it should open the dialog box.

make sure to do this with office not running in the back ground.

then see if the printer shows up in the print dialog in Word.

I know Sneakycyber, thats whats so confusing.  Although the actual file name just has Windows 8 in the title, maybe they messed up.

Thanks for your advice Johnnyjammer.  The printer shows up fine, its just very crashy whenever you select it and amend its properties.

Is there any way I can make Office 2013 wait longer before deciding to crash and give up?  Maybe it just needs a little extra time to think.

Thanks

A couple of thoughts - check you have the x64 version of the hotfix (well I would say that, wouldn't I!!! ). If you requested the patch from an x86 PC, you could have been sent the 32 bit version of the patch.

Check the file versions on the target system against the file versions listed 2/3 of the way down the KB article.Maybe your system already has those or newer files. One odd thing, the x64 section of the kb article lists the platform those files as x86. ??!!???

Check to see if running the patch installer drops an installation log in your temp folder. I think even if it does there will only be a line that says the patch was not applicable, but is is worth a look,
