I got some warnings from AVG about Trojan Dialer.BZB in my C:\Windows\Temp folder. I found some instructions for removal and followed them - although to be honest I didn't see any of the files or HJT entries I was supposed to be looking for.

Now AVG finds nothing, nor does Spybot, Stinger, or Adaware but I have in my c:\windows\temp folder:

Win1.tmp
Win2.tmp

etc...

deleting them does nothing, as more just appear.

I've done a lot of searching but not found a definite answer. I've run Vundofix (nothing found) and ATFCleaner.

Here is my HJT log.. can anyone help?

OK, I think I found it. It was

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winmmt32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winmmt32.dll

I submitted the file to Jotti and it reported it as infected, so I ticked that entry and fixed it, then used killbox to remove the file. So far, no more temp files.

Is there anything else dodgy in there, or is that it?

Thanks for the welcome, and no sweat about the delay! I contribute to a fair few peer help programming forums, so I'm not about to start screaming for attention  In fact, sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I think things are OK now, but I'll include a HJT log if I may, just for perusal. A quick question - I always thought AV was AV and they were all much of a muchness (apart from Norton, which I have an almost pathalogical dislike for). Having read around a bit, and after this problem, I wondering if I should invest in some non-free AV software. I'm thinking Kaspersky - any recommendations?

Hello again,

Just a leftover in your log to fix.

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place a check next to the following entry:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winmmt32 - winmmt32.dll (file missing)

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix Checked".

- I always thought AV was AV and they were all much of a muchness (apart from Norton, which I have an almost pathalogical dislike for). Having read around a bit, and after this problem, I wondering if I should invest in some non-free AV software. I'm thinking Kaspersky - any recommendations?

Heh, I would say dislike is an understatement for my feelings about Norton. :flowers: I used to use it myself. I switched to Avast! and have had not one iota of trouble. I disagree that all AVs are the same. In fact, as I just told you, my free AV works tons better than the paid program I used. No one AV is perfect, or will catch everything, but there are those that are proven superior. I'm not sure about Kaspersky lately, as they've made some changes in their program, so that will be entirely up to you.

Hope this helps, and please post back if you have any questions or problems.

Take care!
