A virus was found by F-Prot AV. It was unable to delete or disinfect the following virus:

W32/Downloader.ADQX with C:\winnt\system32\ciodycl.dll containing the infection.

We have run:

Adaware - Removed some spyware. (Scan results avail. on request.)

SpyBot - Removed some spyware. (Alexa related, only.)

Trend Micro - Screen closes before the scan is complete. Possibly by the virus?

Panda - Screen closes before the scan is complete. Possibly by the virus?

Bit Defender - Nothing Found.

No success in deleting the offending file in SafeMode or by any other means.

PC recently 7-14-06 updated to SP2. (After the virus was found.)

Here is a copy of the HiJackThis log:

Hello WSULib

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you Copy and Paste
this post to a new text document or print it for reference later
.

Step 1.

I would like to recommend if you are using The Windows Firewall that you replace it as soon as possible
Please choose to install One of these good free firewalls below to fully protect your system
anyone of these will give you Full control over everything that requests Internet access a feature not available in the default Windows Firewall

Kerio Personal Firewall
OutPost Firewall Free
ZoneAlarm
Sygate Personal Firewall

Please read: Understanding and Using Firewalls

Step 2.

Can you please Re-Scan with Hijack This and place a checkmark next to this entry:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {c35ba113-fb74-47ac-87d6-9ef9d7a8a764} - C:\WINNT\system32\ciodycl.dll (file missing)

Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed and select "Fix checked". Exit Hijack This.

Then please use Internet Explorer and Run the Kaspersky On-line Scanner

Accept the Active X object and download the latest definitions.
When the scanner is ready, click Scan Settings.
Select the Extended anti-virus database.
Select Scan Archives & Scan Mail Bases and then ok.
Click My Computer to run a full system scan.
When complete, choose Save as Text and save the log to your desktop.

Step 3.

Please now Open Hijackthis
Click Open Misc Tools | Open Unistall Manager.
A list of the entries in Add/remove programs will appear.
Click on Save List...
The list will be saved as Uninstall_list.txt

and then Re-Scan with Hijack This and post:

The new HiajckThis log
The kaspersky Scan results
The Uninstall_list.txt
and please let me know how this system is running now.

Thank you,
ourwilly.

The popups have been removed (when opening IE) successfully from the system and it appears to be running much better.

We appreciate all of your help. We need experts like you, as these rascals hide all over the place and most of us do not have the time to research all the ways to remove them. We are thrilled that we have found this help and that it is so convenient.

As for putting a firewall other than Windows Firewall on this PC, we have been asked to not install any that you have listed on these particular machines until further notice. There is a program that conflicts with the firewalls as it attempts to stay connected to a program on another server. Which when we had Zone Alarm on them, the program timed out and had to be relogged on constantly during the day. Timed out in ab. 15m. This is a known fact with the s/w company that created the program we use. All other machines that do not have this program in use on a regular basis do have a third part firewall.

Thank you for all your help and I will await your next reply to the scans included in this post.

Hello WSULib

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note - In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
Save it to your desktop.
Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
Select: Delete on Reboot then Click on the All Files button.
Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\WINNT\system32\awtqrrq.dll
C:\WINNT\system32\awvvuss.dll
C:\WINNT\system32\jkhhefe.dll
C:\WINNT\system32\pmnljhh.dll

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.

Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Can you please Re-Scan and post a new Hijack This log

Thank you,
ourwilly.
