Hi, I bought a new laptop a while ago which came with Win 8.1, and I recently upgraded to Win 10. To clarify, I had this problem with 8.1 as well, so the upgrade did not cause this problem.

So in some games I play, I will get occasional 1-2 second freezes. The freeze doesnt affect things like music. When this freeze happens, I will hear some kind of noise start up in my laptop. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it could be some sort of fan. It seems like my hard drive or some other hardware component is starting up. I have my task manager open at the Performance tab, and when this happens, I see a 100% spike in the hard drive. However, with resource monitor open, I can't actually see any culprit.

I have a 120GB SSD as my main C drive, and a 1 TB HDD as my storage drive. These games are installed on my HDD. Due to all of the above, it seems my issue is disk drive related. I have checked through my power settings, and the hard drives should not be sleeping.

Please let me know what other information I should provide

Which disk spikes to 100% in the Performance tab?

Lot's of these problems in Win10, but few of them in Win8/8.1

Let's try looking at these reports:

1)  Please provide this information (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum):  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

2)  Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504
