fter having issues with my windows update for a few weeks i have began to investigate as ive dbaned the harddrive and also freshly installed windows 7 home premium. im after help ive had all sorts of codes recently and it appears every time i fix one another pops up. currently its 80070246. minitoolbox added.

after a malware scan i believe it to be the software i used to activate windows code with as i have only got a factory written code which wouldnt be accepted and didnt know any other way to do it.

If this is a laptop then it almost certainly was built with what is called an 'OEM' Windows licence which is tied to the motherboard. Following, as appears to be your case, say a hard drive failure you are allowed to re-install the same version of Windows that you had before and you can use any install disc to do this, but you are going to have to give MS a phone call for activation.

 

By this I mean if you had 'Home premium' on before you must re-install 'Home premium', if you had 'Pro' then you must re-install 'Pro' and so on. Since you seem to have a problem with the Windows code you are going to have to give MS a ring, but since I think you live in the UK this is a free call, or at least it was the last time I did it ! This should solve your problems.
