My computer's startup was interrupted by a power issue. I try again and this time get a blue screen telling me to run CHKDSK/F. So I try to start the computer again on safe mode with command prompt to do so, but the blue screen pops up again before I can get there. I hit F8 and tried every possible way of getting into the computer and everytime the blue screen pops up.

All of this is also on the blue screen

Stop 0x00000024 (0x00190444, 0x87012210, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)

The computer is a Vaio laptop. The only thing that works is when I press F10 I get into the Vaio Recovery Environment. The options are:

Windows System Restore which is just going back to an older date which I tried already

Vaio Hardward Diagnostic which  does a diagnostic on the hardware to see what the problem is

Restore C: Drive which sets things back to factory settings but keeps preloaded software

Restore System which sets everything back to original factory settings

Rescue Data lets you try to save data on the computer if you can't get into windows

So I have 2 questions

1. Is there any other way to get a dos prompt on Vista so I can run CHKDSK/F?

2. Would anything in the Vaio Recovery Environment help?

What do you mean by blue screen? Do you mean Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)?

I have looked up similar problems experienced by other people.

Since Windows System Restore isn't working for you, you can try to restore the C:\ drive but I'm not sure if you will be able to recover files you want to keep.

If you have the OS disc, I would reinstall the OS because you will be able to retrieve files you want to keep.

Okay I'll try that.
