I'm having a problem with the sound on my newish imac ....

The sound on startup is OK,  but there's no sound when i play mp3s  or YouTube clips.

All the specs in System Prefs are OK .... no mute etc ..... hence the sound on startup is working.

Can anybody tell me what's happening?  How can I fix it?   Thanks

Check if you have the current Adobe Flash Player version.

If not, update to new Version.

Try the following

1. Click on the Finder Desktop and press the keys CMD + SHIFT + G together.

2. Copy and insert the following location on it and hit Enter:

~/Library/Preferences

3. Search for the Macromedia Folder and move it to your Desktop.

4. Test if your problem is gone.

Thanks Dante.

I don't have Adobe Flash installed - I had it but I uninstalled it.  However I have the Macromedia Folder you've mentioned ......  I moved it, but I still couldn't hear any sound.   Do I need that folder?  It's left over from the Flash, isn't it?  So I can delete it?

Since that didn't help my sound problem, can you or anybody else  suggest anything else that might fix it?

Thanks  :)

Please read this Article https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203186

1. Open Spotlight and type Audio-Midi-Setup and press Enter.

2. Below on the right Side there is a button to configure the Speaker. Click on it and and check whether the speakers working.

3. Reset SMC and PRAM (NVRAM)

Can you give me a link for any of the videos with no sound? - Thanks

Thanks Dante.

I deleted the Macromedia files, and then tested the Speakers.  I think it was testing the speakers that must have "woken" them or something because when I first tried it they didn't work .... but I tried again a while later and they worked .....

Then when I tested YouTube and some mp3 files they had sound .....  so it worked!!

Thanks VERY VERY much .... I really appreciate the time you've taken to help  .... I really do.  :thumbup2:  :thumbup2:
