I have been having trouble with windows updates, either won't install or fail. Computer works fine, but my new ESET NOD32 seems to depend upon computer being updated, Any ideas about why the updates won't install?

Have you tried running the System Update Readiness Tool?

I'm having the same problem. I'm running the Windows Update Troubleshooter now.

I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. I did upgrade to Windows 10, but hated it and rolled back - I hid the updates to get Windows 10, since I didn't want to get into that again. No updates have been installed since 7/29/15, though there are 31 available.

I'll be watching this thread in hopes of some help. Thanks!

I seem to be having trouble with BITS. My event log gives me this error for Bits-Client:

- EventData

  ErrorCode 2147942402

And this error for Service Control Manager:

- EventData

  param1 Background Intelligent Transfer Service
  param2 %%-2147024894

Does this shed any light on my problem? Thank you for your help!

Press the Windows key rsz_1rsz_1rsz_11rsz_2windows_key_zps9dxg and the X key together, then select Command Prompt (Admin).

When the Elevated Command Prompt opens copy and paste the command below, then press Enter.

Here's my screenshot. Thanks!

Along with this information, I ran the windows update troubleshooter. It said it fixed some things, but not all (pdf attached).

Rebooted and attempted to download updates again - Updates failed error: 80246008

I checked in Services and looked at BITS, tried to start it and got this error: -2147024894

Thank you for your help.

Your screen shot indicates the user account you are logged in with has admin privileges. Click on the Start menu, type in cmd in the search bar. Right click the command window icon and select Run as administrator. You should see that BITS is running, with (stoppable, not_pausable, ignores_shutdown) as options.

If BITS is not running, click on the Start menu again, select Computer, right-click it and select Manage. Click on Services in the left page. Find the Background Intelligent Transfer Service. The status should be Started, and the Startup type set to Automatic (Delayed start). If it's not set to that, click on BITS and right-click it. If it's stopped, set it to start. Right-click again, go to Properties, and in the General tab set it to Automatic (Delayed start).

Again, make sure your user account has administrative privileges to make these changes to the service.
