Hello. I am installing Windows 7 Home Premium on a 1 tb hard drive. My system currently has Windows 7 Ultimate. My question is "How do I move my entire music library (including iTunes) and Virtual-box to my external before I install windows?"

Question 1 / why are you moving from Ultimate > to Home Edition.

Question 2/ Why not just clone the existing drive to the  1 TB drive and swap the drives over and  lose nothing.

Fairly sure if you moved / copied ITunes and music to the terabyte and then installed Win Home , you would just wipe it anyway with the install.

Also does apple ID not just run on one PC ? or has that changed ?

Is this an issue with the existing drive being to small and running out of space ? .....More clarity and what you are trying to achieve .

If you are going to use installation media for a different version of Windows you will need a legal product code for that version in order to activate it.  I'm guessing that you don't have media to install the version you are currently using?

What is the make and model of this computer?

Why are you installing another hdd?

@Havachat: Q1. I am moving from Ultimate to Home because apparently my current Windows is not genuine.

Q2. I tried reinstalling Ultimate using the product key that I got from Belarc Advisor, but it didn't work, otherwise I would keep Ultimate. So I bought Windows Home Premium with a new product key.

Why would I lose everything if I moved my music to the external. I've been watching videos online about moving music library to external, but they all say something different. I didn't know which one to use. That's why I am asking the forum (the experts) :)

@dc3: I have a bootable USB drive for Ultimate, but the key I used doesn't work. The Microsoft Recovery page tells me it is not genuine and Ultimate was on the computer when I bought it.p

The make and model of the computer is: Velocity Micro E2055

I upgrade current hard drive to 1tb.

I hope I have explained it a little clearer.

You still have not explained why you purchased a new hdd.

Does the product code you used have oem in it?  Belarc shows both the product key and the product id.

If the original hdd still functions and you can boot into Windows with it, please do the following.

Please download Microsft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool.  Clicking on this link will immediately initiate the download.

When the diagnostic tool opens you will see a image like the one below.  Click on Continue.

mgadt1_zpssea2rxt2.png

Click on Copy, copy and then paste the content in your topic.

mgadt2_zpsbrkf74ab.png

If the Copy option does not work, take a screenshot of the content of the image and post that in your topic.

How to make a screenshot

1. Download and run A Thousand Words .

2. Follow the wizard to capture a screenshot

3. Use the built-in editor to resize, edit, or re-capture your screen shot.

4. Your screen shot will be saved to your desktop when you finish the wizard.

You can post the screenshot in your next post as an attachment.

Just below the area where you write text in a post there is the Post button, to the right of this is More Reply Options

Post2_zpsf05c0430.png

When you click on More Relpy Options  you will see Attach Files and Browse, click on Browse, this will open Pictures on your computer, click on the image you want to post, then click on Attach This File, then Add Reply.

You have the installation disc with the product key, correct?

If this is the case just use the disc to format the disc and install Windows.

If you need a tutorial for this, let me know.

I am currently using Ultimate from a system image created from the failing hard drive, because I didn't have the installation media.

I have the installation media and product key for Windows Home.

Does MGA tool say if Windows Ultimate is genuine?

The validation code: 0 indicates that the operating system is not activated.  If the validation code had been  it would mean that a invalid product key had been used.

If you have already purchased the Windows 7 Home Premium and have the product key, why not wipe the hdd and install that?

That's what I want to do. I just don't want to lose my entire music library and the virtual OSes in virtual box. I just want to save the virtual OSes. I can always reinstall Virtual-box. I was planning on reinstalling them both.

Can I run virtual-box from an external drive?

Right click on the folder which contains your music, then move the pointer to send then click on the external hdd.  Check to make sure all of you music was moved.
