I recently built a new computer, and used an old OEM disc I got a few years ago from a school promotion.

So I reinstalled Windows 7 on this new computer, no problems, installs regularly, and I start to install my new programs. Well some of them work fine and some don't, and what I've learned from testing is that 64-bit programs DO NOT start. They will install and they will install fine, but if I launch them, they crash before starting up completely. I am almost entirely sure that this is a software issue. For example, when I installed Teamspeak 64bit, it would not start, but 32bit Teamspeak works fine.

I have attached an image of the kind of error report that most of the programs give me when I try to start them. Important is the Exception Code: c000001d

Also, I run an Intel i7 4790k at 4.00GHz, 16GB 1866MHz RAM, and a Nvidia GTX 980 Ti.

I would check two things. 1: Make sure you are running 64 bit windows. 2: If you are, make sure your Motherboard allows 64bit.

Additionally, make sure you have at least 4 gigs of RAM, if you are on 7, or 8.

To determine if it is 32 or 64 bit system type, you can hold down the Windows Key on your keyboard + R and then the Run Dialog box should appear. Type in the dialog box "msinfo32" and the system summary will show under system type: 32bit/86bit or 64bit.

If it shows 32 or 86 then it is not a 64bit OS and therefore will not run 64bit applications.

Not much I can say about an install done yesterday reflecting the above data...other than (IMO) it appears to be an illegal install of Windows or you have downloaded/installed illegal software that has made your system dysfunctional.

I guess I'm confused. I used an old copy of Windows 7 that I've used before to install, but when I entered the product key it didn't stop me in any way from installing Windows 7. I thought if it was illegal than it would stop you from installing it.

If your thoght process re illegal installs...were accurate...then it would be impossible to have an illegal install, correct?

Illegal installs abound...multiple use of keys assigned to a single system, torrents which have taken measures to "fool" procedures set up by Microsoft...and so on.  I'm not the Microsoft Police, just stating what I have observed during the years I've spent commenting at this website.

Most software vendors cannot or do not employ the safeguards against illegal installs that Microsoft can/does.

Torrents...are essentially a system whereby any user can modify a given file (with or without malware) and pass it on to whomever downloads/installs the torrent.  IMO, it's almost impossible for anyone to protect against such, either on behalf of property rights which belong to a developer or on behalf of all those who do their best to avoid the possibility of installing malware (hidden) on their own systems.  Sabotage against self...just is not a very wise approach to using a computer system, IMO.
