I am trying to figure out how to speed up a 4 year old Windows 7 laptop. I've tried defragmenting it and CCleaner (did not use reg cleaner feature) and updating drivers but nothing seems to work. Also, when it boots up, the desktop turns white, then black, then you can see the background, then white again, then it's done. There's also a lot of "ghosting" (or whatever you call it) when sometimes you drag something and you see some artifacts on the screen then it goes away. Lastly, whenever you download something it always gets stuck on the last 0.1 MB for a while. Is there anything I can do with Windows 7 on this machine or should I convert it to a full blown Linux machine?
