Hey people!

I fix pc's for local residents, and I think I've made a mistake.

The PC was a badly infected windows 7. I couldn't fix the issues, so I tried installing windows 8.1. After several crashes and reformats, I tried to install windows 7 back on the computer and it won't take it. I can take the laptop fully apart again for the fourth time and run chkdsk, which will likely allow me to reinstall windows 8.1 but I will run into the same issues. Does anyone have any advice for me on this one? Thanks so much!!!  (Also, it is a windows 8.1 full version, but it doesn't say pro so I don't think I can downgrade to windows 7.)

Can you give the make and model of the computer? Also, what happened when you tried to reinstall Windows 7?  Running chkdsk to allow a Windows install may indicate a failing drive.
