Hello, everyone, i`m New to here, and my name is Chuah.

Recently i've saw notice of a 6month trial promotion from Bitdefender, so i decided to give it a try. After a few days of usage, i found out something weird from "Process Hacker"
Please see below for a picture reference, i not sure how i can explain about this.

Does anyone with Bitdefender noticed this? is it something that i should worry? Because it seems like trying to connect to 007guard.com

127.0.0.1 localhost is the universal IP address of all local computers and is the standard hostname given to the address of the loopback network interface which refers to the local computer only.

Are you using Spybot S&D? If so, Spybot's immunization feature, the "Global (Hosts)" profile typical adds about 15493 entries to the HOSTS file starting with 127.0.0.1.

Check the first line in your HOSTS file. If there is no 127.0.0.1 localhost line in your HOSTS file at the very beginning, the local name resolution will look to the first immunization entry which probably is 127.0.0.1 007guard.com.

If you open the Hosts file, the note at the top and bottom will show the entries were inserted by Spybot:

thanks alot, this clears up a lot of my doubt. and yes, in the past, i do have spybot S&D installed in the past and enabled the immunization. But i've uninstalled it a year ago due to cleaning up alot of unwanted software.

Is it Spybot S&D still good? or there's a better alternative?

mvps.org and many security experts are no longer recommending Spybot S&D (or Ad-Aware) due to poor testing results and ineffectiveness against current malware threats.

IMO, more effective alternatives are Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Emsisoft Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware Free.

However, Spybot S&D is still useful for it's Immunization/Hosts file protection. Another option is to use a Custom Hosts File.

Just to add... if you use the extension uBlock Origin for Firefox and Chrome then you can choose to add MVPS HOSTS file and hpHOSTS file as filters in uBlock Origin.

Yea but in reality, I think the day of using the HOSTS file this way has come and gone. I have not used one in years.
