This problem began 10 days ago. Scroll boxes go totally haywire mainly when I try to access dialog/dropdown and combo boxes. For example; when I click on the Advanced tab on the IE 11 Internet Options page. The horizontal scrollbar goes immediately to the right and stays there. Others scroll immediately to the bottom. With programs like Character Map all the characters rush by at warp speed... it's like watching a video. All this happens without me even touching my mouse or keyboard. The issue exists to some degree on all websites and it's not only with IE 11, I also have Chrome, Firefox and Opera. My apps are also affected such as MS Word, Yahoo Messenger, etc. It's almost as if it has a mind of it's own being rather mild in some programs and really crazy in others.

I was originally on another forum and the person who was helping me suggested I come up here to determine if this is indeed a bug or not. What has been tried so far was to do a system restore. Since the problem started 10 days ago I restored to a week before it happened but to no avail. My helper really thought the problem was the mouse so we did the obvious and uninstalled my mouse driver and rebooted the computer but the problem remained. Then we repeated the process and uninstalled the mouse driver and then tried another mouse but that didn't do the trick either. At any rate, I certainly must have some corrupt files on my system. So I'm thinking maybe some strange bug has possibly crept into my machine.

My system is an HP 810-135qe Envy/Phoenix Win7 Professional 64-bit with Intel i7-4770 CPU@ 3.40 GHz and 16GB Ram. If you can help me figure this out this weird issue I would be most appreciative to say the very least.

  • When the scan is done, click List threats (only available if ESET Online Scanner found something).
  • Click Export, then save the file to your desktop.
  • Click Back, then Finish to exit ESET Online Scanner.

AdwCleaner must have hung or whatever, it never completed and didn't give me a report. However it did have a partial log file.

Hi Ok, Lets remove what it found.

Try running again..

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
  • The tool will start to update the database, please wait a bit.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
  • After the scan has finished... <-insert any special instructions here for what to uncheck OR remove this line if there are none->
  • This time click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.

Next run ESET

This is really weird... I ran AdwCleaner several times and I followed your instructions exactly. Every time it seemed like it would work properly because it did update the data base and you could see it would start searching in the program window. Then it just seemed to freeze up and nothing shows up in the program tabs; services, folders, files, etc. I let it run for a couple hours each time with the same result. But it still generates a log file. I didn't remove anything because I have no idea of what any of those registry files are. The program appears to never finish and it didn't give me a list of items with checkmarks to keep or remove. I wonder if anyone else has had this same problem with this program.

I had no problem at all with the other 3 programs. And I did run ESET again this evening as you told me to do but it came up 100% clean this time. At any rate, here is the log file from AdwCleaner.

Let's run RKILL, this is quick.

Please download Rkill by Grinler and save it to your desktop.
  • Link 1
  • Link 2
    • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
    • If using Vista/Windows7, right-click on it and Run As Administrator.
    • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
    • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
    • If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
    • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
  • Do not reboot the computer, you will need to run the application again.
Now update and run Malwarebytes...

Rkill worked really great as you said. It didn't find any malware and neither did Malwarebytes. However, whatever was causing that crazy scrolling behavior on my machine is gone... at least for now. :)
