What is the make and model of the computer? Are there any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager? If there are then right click the device and select Properties. Under the Details tab select Hardware IDs in the dropdown box. Copy and post the first line.

You are trying to connect using Ethernet, correct? Do you have a model number other than Aspire. There should be an alpha-numeric number on a sticker, probably on the back of your desktop. Did you uninstall the network adapter drivers because you had trouble connecting?

Can you take a screenshot of Device Manager?

For some reason I cannot get the larger image.  Here is the LAN driver for your computer. Install it and see if it helps. Create a System Restore Point first. If you have never created a System Repair Disk, then you should do that also.
