The thing about anonymity and being obscured by clouds in Cambridge as decades pass
is that it doesn't seem to last. Try dying, for example.
Well, don't try asking Syd.
It must 'ave been tough being one half of the Roger's on the team.
No matter how far the bands was goin' to go,
stereophonic "roger that" could have been a contributing factor
to the erstwhile assumption that LSD played a role in the matter of work on 'Echoes" or "Ummagumma"
Maybe?

NO MAN'S LAND...........The Madcap Laughs
by Roger (Syd) Barrett

You would hold your head up high
you even try
you would hold another hand:
oh understand!
They even see me under call
we under all,
we awful, awful, crawl
to hear my hour
don't see me cry...

Just searching you even try
I can make you smile
if it's there will you go there too?
When I live I die!
They even see me under call
we under all, we awful, awful, crawl
because of you, to see me be.

Spoken Piece

Tell me, Tell me
Don't, if you?
Stop that, that just upset yourself
Listen, Listen, if you ask in person
I'll stick to the joke, you know
yelling and screaming, help me!

All that in the afternoon, for that matter
So she'd asked if we could stay with Grace
Maybe a day or a couple of weeks
You know, until Tuesday
Pick up my mushrooms
Clean my skin up
Pick up some tissue
Pick up the production
It's all fine! you know
And she served the wine
And had cups for 3 or 4 people
And that nonsense
Gracie do her song, heavily spaced
All the pink shine on war
Explodes from beneath
Don't you would rather
Be out the front door sometime
Long ago instead of being
Cooped up like a catched rat?
How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook

Ok, since I know very little about Pink Flyod and didn't grow during the time, I'm guessing thats why I don't understand much of this topic.

Here's a tribute I posted elsewhere:

I don't know how I feel about it all, just a sense of deep sadness. I found this wonderful quote in The Times' tribute:

Like a Van Gogh painting or a Sylvia Plath poem, Barrett’s solo albums afford us a peek into the headspace of an artist who perceived the world differently from the rest of us.

For now, I think 'Welcome to the Machine' sums it up for me. Like 'Shine On' the song is all about Syd, but focusing more on the influences in his early life, and 'the machine' which ultimately destroyed him.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
Where have you been?
It's alright we know where you've been.
You've been in the pipeline, filling in time,
Provided with toys and 'Scouting for Boys'.
You brought a guitar to punish your ma,
And you didn't like school, and you
know you're nobody's fool,
So welcome to the machine.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
What did you dream?
It's alright we told you what to dream.
You dreamed of a big star,
He played a mean guitar,
He always ate in the Steak Bar.
He loved to drive in his Jaguar.
So welcome to the Machine.

Yeah I think it's sad that he's gone. Lately it's been easier for me to manage because it's been a week since he's gone. I was playing the Wish You Were Here album a few times last week in memory of him. Now I'm starting to explore his solo work. One song I've already heard is "Opel." It's a pretty good song, and I'll probably be lsitening to it a few more times on Napsterlinks. Maybe I'll listen to the whole album today as well. Have you guys heard it yet?

sorry, didn't work here
I find it fascinating that he hadn't been with the band since 68 , but still most people still knew who he was and his history with and outside of the band . All in all I'd say he was lucky (if you can call a LSD induced schizophrenia lucky) that he survived considering how many musicians seem to kill themselfs off on a regular basis .
money may not be able to buy you happiness ,
but it can sure buy you a small piece of hell
