The Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool or MGADiag Tool.

I wanted to use this tool to see if I was running the original HP OEM Windows install because I am attempting to restore from the Recovery Partition but having some issues doing so.  Thought it would help to know this before my next move.

I ran this tool but cannot get the files to Notepad.  I don't have Word, or Office.

Thanks pcpunk

Yeah, Go The Power!  I copied the stuff many times, and posted a screenshot but they took it down as I was hijacking another thread I think.

Now I am really confused.  I went to photobucket and tried to post the file as I saw it, and this is what it uploaded.  So there is the file and all seems to be okay but I don't know what all of it means.

I tried many ways to copy this to Notepad but could not do it but there it is.  I will try to see if any of those links will help me understand if this confirms anything.

The MGADiag Tool provides detailed information about the Microsoft Genuine Advantage components and settings on your system. MGADiag.exe can be used to analyze and troubleshoot a non-genuine notification issue you may be experiencing.

Still can't open the darn file.  And couldn't find anything on the net as how to do it.  Don't know if I need it but would like to research the info. that it is presenting me.  Pretty sure I got the original install or at least a HP OEM install, but missing the HP Recovery Manager that allows one to use the Recovery Partition to Restore to Factory Specs.

Your MGADiag report looks fine.

As far as i can tell your PC is:

  • Running Windows 7 Ulitmate
  • Using the HP OEM SLP generic key (The default inbuilt key that HP will use on all computers when shipping this particular version of windows)
  • PID and OEM SLP key matches the record for HP Win7 Ultimate.
  • Manufacture shows up as HP
  • BIOS SLIC table says you are running a HP computer
