This is an error description:

Error 1706: Microsoft Powerpoint has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Has anyone experienced this problem?

have you tried doing repair through the Programs and Feature section. I tend to try that first and see if it fixes and issues with Office I have.
