I have been troubleshooting this problem on another support site.  There have been 37 posts over a four week period, with no solution.
Lately, my supporters have abandoned me or gone on vacation.

My Dell Optiplex GX629 [Win 7] desktop works just fine except when it comes to surfing the web.  Windows is telling me that I am connected to the wireless network, the signal is excellent and also says "internet access."  Indeed, after a couple of attempted fixes I was able to surf like crazy for a temporary spell.  But always, eventually, it gets to the point that when I try to open a page the busy sign comes on and stays on indefinitly.  (Sometimes there is a "not responding" or "timed out" message.

There are two other computers, laptops, that are also receving the signal from the same modem/router (Arris) and not having any problem.

The problem arose in May.  I had recently added additional memory but the problem did not arise immediately after that.

I tried to fix the problem by replaCing the OS with a backup I made on another computer.  That led to a boot manager problem which turned out to be due to the fact that the other computer was an earlier vintage machine.

After I recovered from the boot manager problem, except for a brief interval, the web page loading problem was still there.  So I gritted my teeth and reinstalled win 7 from an installation cd that was supplied with the computer.  To my dismay, the web page loading problem was still there (except for a brief interval to begin with).

Also, somewhere along the line, I have run Avast boot time scan and Windows Defender Offline, looking for a viris and finding none.

The problem persisted whether I was using Chrome or IE.   I even ran a Linux Mint install cd to occupy spare space on the C drive but found I could not open pages with Firefox there either.

This led me to suspect that the usb network adapter on the computer was causing the problem.  I bought a replacement.  After it was installed, the problem went away for a while, eventually coming back with a vengence.

---Power cycled everything.  No change.

---Checked proxy setting -- none.

---Removed all the stored wireless network profiles and searched for the network again. No change.

---Ran ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

Firstly, I would press the report button and ask a moderator to move your thread to the Networking Forum. I think you will get a better response there. The only thing I can think of is to disable IPv6 and reboot to see if the USB adapter responds better. In your log it shows Comcasts IPv4 DNS servers as a fallback.  75.75.75.75  75.75.76.76

Good Luck.

I tend to think the adapter is bad if linux failed too.

Have you tried connecting it wired and seeing what happens?

Also, download MiniToolBox check Select all near the top and click GO. Post back the results. you posted a lot of the same information but this will put it all together.

Hope this helps thumbup.gif

" I had recently added additional memory but the problem did not arise immediately after that."

Personally I would have pulled the memory before doing everything you have done.  I would suggest you run a memory checker program asap.

Next I would connect wired to the router and see if you have the same issues.  If not then its isolated to wifi.

Then download xirrus wifi inspector and post a screen shot of what it sees for APs in your area.

1. I disabled IPV6.  No change.

2.  I switched the network adapter (which was brand new) to another machine and switched that machine's adapter to the affected computer.  The affected computer continued to have a problem while the other computer had none.  So it seems the network adapter is not the problem.

3.  I ran the Windows memory test and it did not detect any memory errors.

4.  Here is the result from the Minitoolbox run:

I ran WFiInspector.  The result is an image file.  I can't seem to cut and paste it here.

Am I wrong in thinking that since there are two other computers on the wireless network that are not having any problem at all, and one of them is only several feet away from the computer having the problem, that the problem is not with the wireless network?

Hooking the problem computer to the modem/router by wire is a project because it is a heavy desktop that would have to be carried down a flight of stairs by a 76 year man.  But I will do so if it has to be done.

The problem persisted whether I was using Chrome or IE.   I even ran a Linux Mint install cd to occupy spare space on the C drive but found I could not open pages with Firefox there either

So you booted a Live version of Mint and it still didn't work? At all? It worked for a while and stopped? If yes, that's not good.

Just as a test change the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8. Flush the DNS with ipconfig /flushdns from an elevated CMD prompt(right click Run as Admin) see how long you can surf.

Just as a side note and has nothing really to do with your problem, I recently switched to Xfinity aka Comcast and if I search for my ip address an IPv6 address is shown. So this whole "Disable IPv6" as a troubleshooting thing might be pointless. Again nothing to do with your issue.

Hope this helps thumbup.gif

About Linux Mint, 2 aspects.  I wanted to install the OS and try browsing.  The OS would install most of the way but when it got to something about loading languages it would be "working" indefinitely and go nowhere.  I imagined that it was trying to go online but could not.  On another try, while still in the live mode (if I understand what that means, i.e. working off the CD) I noticed the system was telling me I was connected, had internet access, etc.  So I was able to open Firefox,  When I clicked on a link, I got the same results as on Windows   Could not load web pages.

Regarding your 2d paragraph, it is over my head.  I understand everything after "from an elevated."  Pretend I'm a dummy (whicham) and give a little more detail.  Thanks.

Click windows button --- type cmd --- on the shortcut, right click and click Run as Admin -- type ipconfig /flushdns press enter

click windows button --- Control panel --- under Network and Internet click View network status and tasks -- upper left click change adapter settings -- right click on your Wireless Network Connection --- click Properties -- click to highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 --- click Properties button -- click Use the following DNS server addresses and in the boxes type 8.8.8.8 as Preferred and 8.8.4.4 as Alternate -- click OK, Close and close network connections -- reboot your computer and try it.

Ok so you tried it with the Live CD of Mint and it still did the same thing. Try the above and see if that works, if not boot the PC into safe mode with networking and try to connect: Do this by rebooting and tapping the the F8 key repeatedly, a black screen should pop up and Safe mode with networking will be one of the choices.

Hope this helps thumbup.gif

Thanks, folks. I tried both procedures. 8888 -- no go. Safe mode with networking -- no go.

Yesterday, I tried some advice picked from browsing on good machine. Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings then uncheck all options. The only one with a check was detect settings automatically and I unchecked that. Afterwards, the computer was working properly until later in the day when it reverted to the problem mode. This scenario keeps popping up.

The only common problem I see is you are using USB for the wireless so maybe your USB ports are wonky. Have you tried attaching the USB adapter to another port? Maybe try a PCI-e wireless adapter if your Optiplex form factor can accept it.

This morning I pulled the USB network adapter and plugged it in another port.  Viola!  The computer was normal and I was surfing like crazy for an hour or hour and a half.  I left the computer and when I returned later the old problem was back again and has not gone away. Deja Vu all over again.

I assume a PCI-e wireless adapter is a card you install in an open slot inside the machine.  If I had good reason to believe that would be the permanent solution I would go out and buy one and put it in.  But I'm dubious.

Try the usb adapter on a different pc and see if you have the same issue.  You would disable the existing wifi adapter so the usb one is the only connection

BTW if using good Comcast dns server as in this case, changing to google's is pointless.
