I have computer that used to work. Dual core, 2bg of ram and Asus motherboard. When I turned the PC, it only stay in boot screen where the brand name and model number of the motherboard displays. Prompts to Press DEL for set up or F2 but it does not do anything when I press it. It stays only in the boot screen. I have not changed anything or opened the system tower.

I have tried possible fixes like resetting the chips and cards but did not work. I even tried to use the HDD to other computers and it worked. So, it's not the HDD. Does anyone has an idea what could have gone wrong?

On boot up try repeatedly tapping F8 to see if you can get into Safe Mode.  If it does boot then help is available.

Are comfortable going into the case?  If so I would pull and re seat all connections plugs cables etc, also pull the ram and any other cards you may have.  Important unplug from power, also ground yourself to the case to eliminate static before getting into the innards.

Yes, already tried removing the RAM and plugs and cables, but did not work still. I have not tried removing the processor. By the way, thanks for the OldPhil.

Don't do anything with the processor, still other possibilities.  Do you hear the HD spin up and do you see its light flickering?

Try remove the power cord and the CMOS battery, then hold the power button in for at least 30 seconds to drain the board of power.  Reinstall CMOS battery then the power cord, see if it boots then.

I will try to drain the power as suggested. As of the moment, I'm in the office. I will do it when I get home.

@superking75, I am using USB keyboard. Will that matter?

Well It might if the problem is at start up and you have tried everything else.

Do you have a ps2 type keyboard ?

If not I would just wait before going out and buying one.

Hi guys, I tried replacing the keyboard and even the ram and remained the same. The LED light for HD which was usually blinking is now steady.I am thinking now that the HD is having the issue. What do you think?
