Hello all, I am fairly new to Linux so please bear with me!

I am looking for software to replace ISpy (as far as I know this does not work in Linux) for windows.  I recently created a media server and my home, and got that up and running no problem.  The only thing that it is missing is my surveillance software.

I have found this alternative software for Linux it is called ZoneMinder, the only issue with this is I seem to be having an issue installing this on my rig.  :busy:

If anyone has any other alternatives I would be open to them.  It just needs to be free and work with Dlink IP cams.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks

It worked all the way up until step Create Link, for some reason I cannot create links...  I will do a little more research.

:scratchhead:

Did it give an error message?

The first thing I would do is check the files exist:

ls /etc/zm/apache.conf

and:

ls /etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf

Which version number of Ubuntu Server are you using? The paths might be slightly different if it's not 12.04

I dont think the it exists.  It is stating ln: failed to create symbolic link '/etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf' : No such file or directory

It could be in a different directory on 14.04.

If you update the database for the locate command:

sudo updatedb

(that command might take a while to run)

Then search for the files you're trying to link:

sudo locate apache.conf

and:

sudo locate zoneminder.conf

Post the output of both commands here, and hopefully we'll be able to get the correct paths to make the link.

2.) /var/lib/dpkg/info/zoneminder.conffiles

It looks like there is no zoneminder.conf file, which seems odd if it's installed.

Can you post the output of:

sudo locate zoneminder

Here are instructions for installing zoneminder on 14.04.

http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_Server_14.04_64-bit_with_Zoneminder_1.26.5_the_easy_way

The paths are slightly different, and apparently you need to create two links, but you will still need a zoneminder.conf file.

Hmm I went back threw this guide and started from the begining.  Did not install zoneminder as it was already installed.  Got threw all the other steps, with no errors.  Now when I go to http://serverip/zm it just gives me a dns error and redirects me to TWC search. (TWC is my ISP)

I tried going to https:Media/zm and same thing, Media is the name of my server.

Thanks

I'm not sure what the original problem was, but glad you got it working anyway. :)
