I have windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 -  68 bit Toshiba.

2 days ago things were fine.  Then Chrome stopped working, tried to re-install and nothing worked at all.  Can't even seen to download Chrome.  Tried to delete Chrome through control panel but nothing happens.

Have to use IE now and it is terribly slow!

Please help.

Thank you mikey11.  I have run malwarebytes but didn't know about adwcleaner.  I will do that!

Thank you hamluis.  I will do what you recommend.  I will get back with you.  Have to be out of town for 2 days.  Computer will have to wait until then.

If you didn't find anything with Malwarebytes you probably don't need to run AdwCleaner.  Do what Louis has suggested.

Try uninstalling it in Safe Mode.

If you need instructions...

With the computer shut down, press the power button and immediately start tapping the F8 key.  Continue to do this until you see an image similar to the one below.

abow7_zpsc072f26e.png

Use the up or down key to move the pointer over Safe Mode, click on Enter to select it.

This is not a forum for malware situations, suggestions, etc...this is the Windows 7 O/S forum, where the assumption must first be that it's a Windows/system issue.

The proper forum for suggestions for malware situations...would be the BC Am I Infected forum, which is established to deal with malware situations.

For anyone to suggest using any malware tools in this forum...will only result in the topic being moved to the Am I Infected forum...which is fine if the issues are of that nature.  But the fact that a browser fails to respond and inability to delete files...hardly seems conclusive evidence to me that a malware situation exists.

We try to stick to stated forum focus here...and running malware tools is NOT standard advice or a valid suggestion in this forum.

Louis,

I think I followed your instructions correctly!  I did do the malwarebytes and adwcleaner, but I guess that doesn't hurt anything.

Was able to get this done much sooner than I thought!

Thank you so much for your help!

Also, when I downloaded Speccy, the program indicated that Chrome was the operating system of it's choice, so I let it try to install it.  Nothing happened.

Here is the MinitoolBox information:     Some very interesting stuff here - like a hidden program from Best Buy where I bought the computer!  Can I delete that?

The maximum temperature for you CPU is 105C, yours is running at 86C, your motherboard is running at 85C.  You have an overheating issue.

You can try blowing out the CPU fan with a canned duster and see if this lowers the temperatures.

It looks like there is a problem with your VSS (Volume Shadow Copy service).

Open the start menu and type services in the Search programs and files box.

Services will appear above the search box, right click on it and select Run as administrator.

When Services opens scroll down to Remote Procedure Call (RPC).  In the Status column check to see if it is running. The Startup type should be Automatic.  If these settings are not the same, right click on RPC and under Service status click on Startt.  If the settings are correct move on to the next section.

Scroll down to Volume Shadow Copy.  The Status should be blank, and the Startup type should Manual.

You have a lot more problems than Chrome, looking at your Event Viewer errors.

Your hard drives aren't properly reflected in Speccy...neither is your audio device or optical drive.

Your VSS has problems with the designated backup location...you might try the steps in Method 1 Under Answers .  Please follow the suggestions made by dc3.

Louis

I followed the suggestions of dc3.  The Remote Procedure Call said "Started" under status and it was automatic.  The Volume Shadow Copy status says "started" and startup type is manual.  Thank you dc3 for looking into this.

Louis, when click on "Method 1 Under Answers" it brings up my question and your answers.  Am I doing something wrong?

Mod Edit:  Fixed, thanks :) - Hamluis.

Thank you for all of your time and help!

About the overheating issue.  I have a laptop.  What can I do for that?

I am still stuck on IE.  It is very slow.

Please help.

You laptop will have a intake vent on the bottom of it, and an exit on one or both sides.  Take the canned duster (this is incorrectly being called canned air) and blow through the air intake.  The laptop needs to be turned off when you do this.  Then blow back through from the exit vent.

Method 2 uses a Clean Boot to remove all of the Microsoft Services from the list, (these services will still be functional, you just will not see them) and remove the check marks in all of the non-Microsoft services.  If a services is causing a problem with creating a restore point this should allow you to create a new restore point.

1.  Click on the Start orb, then type msconfig.exe in the Search programs and files box.

2.  When msconfig is seen in the pane above the search box and under Programs, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

afterstart_zps02764513.jpg

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

3.  Click on the General tab.

4.  Click the Selective startup option.

5.  Remove the check mark in the Load startup items  check box.

msconfig_zps77b1ef82.png

6.  Click on the Services tab.

7.  Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

8.  Click Disable all, this will remove all of the check marks in the Services list, then click on Apply, then OK.

9.  Restart your computer and see if you can create a new restore point.
