My computer is having some strange IE problems. At first, the status bar would never stay, but I fixed that problem. NOW, Google Toolbar won't stay up and I have to deselect it then reselect it to have it on IE. ALSO, http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id= keeps reappearing when I scan with HijackThis - everytime I delete it, it just comes back - so when http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id= is present, there are popups gallore. ADDITIONALLY, a folder called DrTemp appears on my desktop from time to time with some app in it - I simply delete, then it comes back days later. If you know how to fix these problems, plus any other CRAP that HijackThis saw, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi again obededom,

Your HijackThis is outdated and is running from your Desktop, which is not recommended. Please create a permanent folder in C: and download the latest version of HijackThis:
Double click your My Computer icon & then double click C:. Go to File > New > Folder. Rename the New Folder HJT (or something that will let you know of the folder’s contents).

Now, download HijackThis 1.98.2 from here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/Merijn/HijackThis.zip and unzip it to your HJT folder.

Posted Image Run HijackThis and put a check in the boxes next to the following:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Frawejn] C:\WINDOWS\System32\w?wexec.exe

Close all browsers and windows (except for HijackThis) and click Fix checked

Posted Image Reboot into Safe Mode.

Posted Image Find and delete the following files and folders in red (some may not be present):
C:\WINDOWS\System32\w?wexec.exe <-- Take care that you do NOT delete wowexec.exe. The file you want to delete is from 11/04/2004 and is 385,024 bytes in size.

Posted Image Reboot normally and post a new log here.

 I fixed the w?wexec.exe using HijackThis, but when I was in Safe Mode, I couldn't find it in C:\WINDOWS\System32. Is this a problem?

:trumpet: Also, Google Toolbar still won't appear when I open IE. I have to uncheck the Links Toolbar in order for Google Toolbar to work. Is there any way to fix this?

:flowers: Thanks for all the help. Here's my new HijackThis Log:

Hi again,

OK, these two lines in your log:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoTKit] C:\hp\bin\AUTOTKIT.EXE
O4 - Startup: AutoTBar.exe

They are some fairly obscure program from the hewlett packard bin that prevents toolbar settings from being changed.

Try disabling AutoTBar and AutoTKit, check Google in the menu and reboot.

If the change holds, you can reenable the HP programs.
