First, some background:
Things started when I got a warning from Facebook about my computer being infected. I went to a different forum to get some help with that (never trusting things that pop up on my screen saying "your computer is infected, follow these steps....").
After several iterations failed to fix the problem, I came here but, apparently the last iteration fixed it because that particular problem went away. However, something along the way appears to have broken PowerPoint 2000, or rather an add-on to PowerPoint (Image Importer Wizard).
When I attempt to open PowerPoint I get several "Microsoft Visual Basic Component not correctly registered" error boxes." Then I get a warning "Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine", followed by more "not correctly registereds" before PowerPoint finally loads. When it does load, I find that Image Importer Wizard is not listed under the Tools menu where it normally resides. When I close power point, I get several more of the "not correctly registered" errors.
At the advice on the other forum, I tried to reinstall the VB6 Runtime library. That gave me the error "Error registering the OCX C:\WINDOWS\System32\OLEAUT32.DLL"
On further advice I tried registering that item specifically by using Regsvr32. That gave me the error "DLLRegisterServer in OLEAUT32.dll failed. Return code was 0x80070005"
Finally, since the problem seemed to be related to Image Importer Wizard (Version 3.1 if it matters), I tried reinstalling that. That attempt, too, failed with "An error (-5004 : 0x80070005) has occurred while running the setup). The "details" on the error are:
Error Code: -5004 : 0x80070005

When I click "OK" installshield pauses for a few seconds then shuts down.
This is a "mission critical" item for this computer. I need to get this back up and running. Any help would be most appreciated.
