I took my PC to the repair shop for a motherboard related issue (PC wouldn't start up sometimes) and when I got it back home and set it up I discovered audio was completely gone. No output either from the screen's speakers nor from the headphones, although the volume bar is moving when sound is played. Drivers were up to date and audio was playing correctly before.
I have noticed the device icon for the audio has changed, while it used to be a speaker now it's a screen. I think I have had this problem before and it was a driver problem. But they didn't touch any software in the repair shop! Anyway, my PC is an HP m8175 and according to the product information in the webpage the sound card is a Realtek ALC888S. I tried uninstalling old drivers and installing the new ones, but the problem persists.
Also, very important note, this issue is not only present in Windows 7 but also when I start up my PC with Ubuntu.
Hope I can get some help here because I haven't found any anywhere else.
