For entertainment, like a lot of people. I go to Youtube, and like to watch Youtubes about the paranormal, practical jokes.

I was following the "Suggested for you" menu, and up popped some videos of horror stories about the deep web.

One video was telling of how they were exploring different sites he found. He said he went to one site where there was a guy sitting in a dark corner and that He was expecting him to jump out and scare him, He did. While looking at the storyteller He said He knew who he was and watching him. He knew his name, adress and had somehow activated the camera mounted in his monitor, and made it so his lap top  was inoperable

My question is, Is that even possible? or was it just made up? To get to the deep web everything's encrypted. How could that even happen?

I watched other videos where the person would tell about how horrific some of the sites they saw were so disturbing, they would give you nightmares.Child Porn, Rape, decapitations and many other disgusting perverted acts.

They sell, drugs, Guns, fake passports and pretty much anything illegal, they even have hit men for hire! All paid for with bitcoins untraceable money. I sort of understand the system but dont understand how governments allow it,

I was reading about how the FBI had taken down a site called Silk Road where you could buy drugs and just about anything illegal

I also read How the Feds have came up with a way of spying on some of these sites by setting up false end routers.

The I watched a video put out by "Anonymous", who claimed it was misinformation given out by the  Feds to detour people from using Tor.

So after watching multiple Youtube videos and a few tutorials about the deep web, I decided to try it myself. I downloaded the Onion router and went to work.

I tried several lists and almost everyone I clicked on was a broken link or it couldnt find the link. I didnt see anything sinister or horrific.

But maybe I didnt have the right lists. Or maybe the Feds did find a way to shut down some of the worst sites? There are still drug selling sites on there but I am not interested so I didnt look around too much.

Anyway So my questions to you guys are, Do the Feds FBI NSA have the capability to shut down sites on the deep web?

Is there a way for someone like in that story to hijack your PC and camera, even though He was using Tor?

Have any of you ever seen any horrific things on the deep web?

I will probably just delete Tor,I didnt see anything of interest that I cant find on the regular web

Had it been me, I would have literally wrote "something". :P

Depending on local laws, the authorities of a country where a server is hosted may be able to shutdown a site. Authorities may also be able to seize domain names. Take Megaupload.com for example, which was seized by the FBI. ".com" is owned by Verisign Inc, which is located in the USA, and therefore the company has to cooperate with USA laws.

I suspect there are some hackers out there who could. After all, anything that can be built can be destroyed.

Never been on the deep web.

@hollowface

My understanding is, if you are using Tor, everything's encrypted, So How could the guy surpassed the encryption to hack into his computer?

I watched a video put out by anonymous, they said for the Feds to read your encrypted sites or emails is almost impossible, and its a lie put out by the government to get people to stop using Tor

I disagree, From going on it, most of the sites are down, almost 8 out of 10. I think the Feds did figure out how to get the sites shut down

Anyway you arent missing anything by not going on there. Except for the Drugs and hitmen, you can find the same stuff on the regular web
