Put simply, my computer goes from "sleep mode" to shutting itself off. I looked around online and discovered that I may have a BSOD problem.

I don't know if it had any to do of the time I changed my router (Netgear N300 Wifi Router). It could be coincidence, or it could be something was changed and I just don't know it.

I ran the Sysnative program. No problem. Report attached.

When I had tried to run "perfmon /report", I came across this message:

  Error:

An error occured while attempting to generate the report.

Looking around online, I came across instructions in turning on the Administrator account, then checking to see if my user account is set to Administrator (which it was), then checking to see if my group account is set to Administrator (which it is now). I tried running "perfmon /report" and the same error comes up.

So, I'm turning in the Sysnative report and the specs for my PC.

And here they are:

· What was original installed OS on system? Windows 8.1
· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? OEM version
· Age of system (hardware) 2013 (2 years old)
· Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? Packaged w/ system - I did not re-install the OS

· CPU Intel Pentium G3220 @ 3.00GHz
· Video Card Intel HD Graphics
· MotherBoard - (if NOT a laptop) ACPI -x64 based PC
· Power Supply - brand & wattage (skip if laptop) I haven't opened the box lately

· System Manufacturer Dell
· Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom) Dell Inspiron 3847

· Laptop or Desktop? Desktop

I've attached two of the most recent dump files from my system.

The first (...-17109-01.dmp) happened at the BSOD at 5:26PM. This was before I made any postings to bleepingcomputer.

The second (...-20234-01.dmp) happened at the BSOD at 10:11PM. This was after rebooting to run Driver Verifier. I suspect the crash happened after I tried to run Google Chrome.

I will run Driver Verifier again and let the PC sit for 24 hours, and not run anything.

Running late for work.  No specific problems noted in the dumps (haven't reviewed the other reports yet).

Start by:

1)  Ensuring that you have ALL available Windows Updates

2)  Ensuring that you have ALL updates from the Dell Support site for your system.

Be sure to update Chipset, Storage and video drivers.  Also update any other utilities/programs from Intel (Smart Connect, Rapid Storage Technology, Management Engine, etc)

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Stupid system won't allow me to edit (probably because the post was too long).

This was supposed to go after the drivers to update but before the Analysis:

Thanks usasma.

I have A+ Bootcamp for the next while. After class today and after I wait for Driver Verifier to fail three times, I will do the updates, as instructed.

For the record, I am doing the current Driver Verification instructions as posted by BleepingComputer:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576333/driver-verifier-bsod-related-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

The two screen dumps I have posted, one was the last BSOD crash before BleepingComputer (no Driver Verification was enabled). The other dump was when I had attempted to use Google Chrome after restarting (as instructed by Driver Verification). It sounds like we might as well disregard the two dumps.

I did restart the Driver Verification process again, last night. After the required reboot, I logged into Desktop and did nothing else. It failed sometime while I was asleep. This morning I did the same thing, logged in and did nothing else. I'm expecting it to fail sometime later this morning.

(I am using my iPad to post this)

It took a while before I figured out that I needed to update the firmware on my Netgear N300 WiFi on Microsoft IE, instead of Google Chrome.

The version I had was V1.0.0.18. Now I have that updated to:

Hardware Version WNR2000v5

Firmware Version V1.0.0.34

GUI Language Version V1.0.0.204

For the next bit, I followed the instructions on removing Power2go from CyberLink from appwiz.cpl:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/cyberlink-virtual-drive/c91b6645-e8df-48eb-b9a0-a24a802f2f0c

I honestly don't know if I care about the CyberLink Media Suite Essentials.

If it's important enough for me to keep on the PC for some other program, I'll keep it.

Otherwise, I'm okay with deleting the entire package

Still working backwards:

I have confirmed Windows 8.1 is up-to-date as of today.

I have also confirmed that Dell Update is up-to-date as of yesterday, with a scan scheduled for the 11th.

The PC seems to be working okay now. I had it in sleep and it has not crashed.

Before closing out, is there a diagnostic tool to verify that the issue is resolved?

Rest of the analysis:

Your UEFI/BIOS (version A02) dates from 2013.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.

The only tool to verify the repair is running the system.

In general, if it goes a week without a problem, then it's probably fixed

If it goes 2 weeks without a problem, then it's usually safe to say that it is fixed.

The last 3 dumps are verifier-enabled, and while they don't blame Virtual Box, they do implicate it somewhat.

Try uninstalling it (you don't have to delete your VM's) and see if that helps.

Don't forget to turn verifier OFF!

Good luck!

For the next bit, I followed the instructions on removing Power2go from CyberLink from appwiz.cpl:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/cyberlink-virtual-drive/c91b6645-e8df-48eb-b9a0-a24a802f2f0c

I honestly don't know if I care about the CyberLink Media Suite Essentials.

If it's important enough for me to keep on the PC for some other program, I'll keep it.

Otherwise, I'm okay with deleting the entire package

After consulting my A+ teacher, I was told that CyberLink Media Suite Essentials is essentially bloatware. Today, after I had another BSOD event. So I removed the entire suite from the system.

I no longer have a BSOD issue, and I think something else is going on.

Today, when I was watching something on Netflix, I went out for a while so I placed the movie on pause. When I got back, I assumed the system went into sleep. So I pressed the space bar. The video did not come up, but the audio did. I pressed the space bar again which paused the movie. After a while, I tried the space bar again and nothing came up, not even the audio. A little while later, the desktop power was still on, the hard disk drive was being accessed, but I received a "no signal" from the TV. I ended up having to do a hard reboot.

This makes me think there's something going on with the video card.

It's not unusual to have problems after stopping a BSOD.  IMO this is most likely when there is a compound problem (more than one program/driver being involved in the errors).

Start by updating BlueTooth drivers.  Those that date from before 17 Oct 2013 (the release of Win8.1) sometimes don't work well with Win8.1

Download fresh video drivers, then uninstall the current video drivers and then install the freshly downloaded one's

Update chipset and storage drivers from the manufacturer's website.

If the problems still remain, then please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

When downloading the drivers, I listened to the advice of my A+ instructor....always go to the vendor.

After a while, I ended up at the "Drivers & Download" section of the Dell website where they had told me that I had three important updates to make. One was for the BIOS, one was for the Intel video, and I forgotten was the third one was. All three of the upgrades have successfully been made so we will see if that resolved anything.
