pointer freezes at startup windows 7 32 bit dell laptop

Often the roller pad/pointer freezes at start/sign on - advice?  Many thanks as always.

Does it freeze in safe mode?  Reboot and keep tapping F8 select safe mode from the menu.

When you get into safe go into control panel then device manager check the drivers for the mouse.
