Hey guys, I've been looking everywhere for a solution to this: Headphones Working Fine, Mics aren't...But totally no luck. I can see that a lot of people are having this problem and posting it on various forums, without any valid solutions or workarounds.
my computer: HP 255 G2 Notebook PC - Windows 7 with only one audio input that won't read any external microphones

a) The Internal microphone works fine and it works everytime even when I plug in an external one.

b ) When I plug in external microphone into the Only ONE audio input there is, it cuts all sound like if I plugged in headphones instead.

I am trying to plug in a Nintendo 3DS from the headphone jack of the console to a microphone jack of my computer to record some sound effects and ran into the trouble

You need the opposite of this.  The piece that goes to the PC needs to have three rings and then split out to a female headphone and microphone jack.
