Okay, so I've run everything on my computer, and AdAware and Spybot and Ewido all keep telling me that there are files that can't be deleted. Here's my hijack this log from today:

Hello Nicole,

Your system is terribly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused.

Download LSPFix.exe to a convenient location. Do NOT run this program. This is only to be used if you lose Internet Access after removing NewDotNet.
To Get rid of NewDotNet, go to:
Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following:
New.Net Applications or New.Net Domains (anything that says New.Net)
If it is not there, go here and follow Procedure 4: NewDotNet Removal Procedure 4.

In the event that you lose Internet access after removing New.Net, please double-click LSPFix.exe that you downloaded earlier. You will see 2 panels. If there is any file listed in the "Remove" panel on the right-side, leave it as is and just click "Finish>>" then reboot your computer and you should now have access to the Internet. If nothing is listed under the "Remove Panel", do NOT do anything - just close the program. You will need to use another computer to come back here for further instructions on what to do.

* Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.

Okay, now I've got another question: I have pretty basically everything worth anything backed up on CDs and whatnot, so would it just be easier to wipe the harddrive and start new? I've got all the Windows XP component CDs, too. Would that basically fix all my problems? If not, I'll make an attempt at this stuff, but it just seemed like it might be easier to start new.

Hey Nicole

It is totally up to you. I will do my best to make a recommendation for you.
What I suggest in these situations is to give a try at cleaning the computer. If it all goes pear-shaped and proves to be a harder, more time consuming task that was orginally percieved, we can fall back on the reformat. I've had a numer of similar logs to you recently, where the computer returns to orignial speeds and where there were very few complications along the way. I know that many people are against reformatting as it is quite time consuming and all setting or programs installed are lost. So my proposal is thus - we try our best to clean up this badly infected computer, but if it proves to be a hard task, we can reformat.

If you decide to reformat I can offer an excellent free guide to do so.
If you wish to try and clean it up, follow the instructions in my first post.
