Yes, my HP Pavillion laptop recently caught a virus i guess, and it wont let me startup my laptop. Its stuck on that black screen that says

Start Window Normally

Safe Mode

And yeah, that screen. So I was told I would have to use the recovery disk to reboot it. Well I got my disk and everytime i put it in, the laptop shows no signs indicating its aware the disk is inside. How am I suppose to use the disk?

I used to have an HP Pavilion.
I had to put the CD in then shut the computer off & restart it.
When it restarted with the CD already in it,it proceeded to work.
I followed the options to either do a repair or full install.

EDIT--
It may give the option to start normally.
Too many years have gone by to remember all the options.

Hewlett Packard just lsot a lawsuit about not having the recovery disks or a way to make them from the recovery partition. A friend of mine got brand new recovery cd's from HP for just shipping & handling. basically this was free. I suggest calling HP and asking about this disk set that you can have them.

Put the first recovery CD in the cd drive, turn off the machine, wait 30 seconds. power up the machine and tap the esc key when you see the HP logo. selec the meu option that says boot from IDE Cdrom.

some HP laptops come with 2 cds that are the operating system cd and the Application and Driver CD or DVD, others come with a set of recovery CDs, any where from three to 9 or more disks. More information on the discs that you have would be helpful.

Wait I think I must have missed something. At one point did you say, I used to have an HP Pavilion.

If this computer that you want to use HP disks in is not an HP the disks will not work they are only for HP computrers.

You will have to go purchase new Windows Install software for trhe computer.

Albert again you are right. I just got an appointment to go back to summer school to learn how to read. When I got there they told me I was to old and kicked me out and flunked me. <G> Sorry I will do better in the future.

On this recovery cd not being recognized try setting BIOS to detect the CD-ROM first instead of the floppy.
