ok, here, for the third time in less than a year, is my hjt log. someday i'll learn! believe it or not, when i went directly to the file listed on here, i found a notice from the company that placed it in my computer. it actually said, this is how to remove it, and here is a list of the companies that contract us to place it..i was in total shock! i followed their directions, however, i'm still getting the damn pop ups today. so, thanx again, guys...in advance. can't say it enough!!

I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [saie] c:\windows\system32\saie.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ozozyt] C:\WINDOWS\ozozyt.exe
If you have "opted-in" to these you may leave them, but "I" consider them "suspect"
O16 - DPF: {084F552D-19EB-4668-9788-984CBC781A8F} (AsyncDownloader Class) - http://survey.otxresearch.com/Preloader.dll

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

c:\windows\system32\saie.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ozozyt.exe

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

ok, let's hope that this time, i remember to POST the log when i'm thru...lol

at first, the saie files would NOT let me remove them..so i went into administrative
and got it done. after it was ALL finished..it actually had the audacity to tell me that "someone, probably without your permission, has removed the 180 search assistant files. shall we reinstall?" sheeesh.

when i opened windows, there were 45 $Nt Uninstall Folders could you please tell me what these are? can they be deleted?

anyway, here's the newest hjt:

These $Uninstall folders are created when you install a Microsoft Service Pack, a hotfix, or certain security updates. These folders contain the undo/uninstall information for the update you install. That means, you will be unable to remove an update in future, if you delete these folders. You may leave them there unless you need hard drive space

For starters i'm going to yell at you.Where is your AntiVirus????????

Go here to download the free version of Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus program.

Install the program, check for updates and scan your system allowing it to remove whatever it finds.

Download KillBox here: KillBox. Unzip it to your desktop.

Start Killbox.exe

Select the Delete on reboot option.

Copy and paste the line below in the field labeled "Full path of file to delete"
c:\windows\system32\saie.exe
Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, press the NO button.

Copy and paste the line below in the field labeled "Full path of file to delete"
C:\WINDOWS\oxetqz.exe

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, press the YES button.

Your computer will reboot.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [oxetqz] C:\WINDOWS\oxetqz.exe

Reboot your computer and post a new log.

sorry, sorry, sorry! (head hanging in shame)

norton expired in october and i REFUSED to re-up. worthless CRAP. i honestly thought, however, that i had mcafee...i could swear i dl'ed it free from comcast! but i DO have adaware and spybot...i run spybot every other day, and adaware weekly, unless i suspect something. so...not sure what these are that you're recommending, but...recommendations for a firewall? cuz if mcafee isn't showing up, then, with the exception of the service pak 2, i don't have that, either...(cowers, eyes batting in fear, anticipating a tongue lashing). will do the above promptly! thanx, again...for putting up with me!

i run spybot every other day, and adaware weekly,

I recomended AVG anti-virus because what do you do in between every other day?
AVG is full time protection against a lot of the nasties trying to get in.And possibly clean up some you already have.

There is a huge difference between Spyware and Virus when it comes to detection methods.

For a firewall i recommend: ZoneAlarm or Sygate Personal.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [saie] c:\windows\system32\saie.exe

After clicking "Fix Checked":
  • Click Config - in the lower right corner
  • Click Misc Tools - top right
  • Click Delete A File on Reboot
  • Browse to: c:\windows\system32\saie.exe
  • HijackThis will prompt you to reboot
Post a new log.

ok, here we go! the last instruction you gave me was to go into c:windows/sys32/saie, and delete it with hjt. it was not there. i also looked in the windows file, just in case. here, then, is the new hjt log. oh...i dl'ed the beta version of messenger...just thought you should know. i'm getting way less pop-ups...but i AM still getting a few.

quick question...that anti-virus you had me dl...how often should i run it? i do realize it runs in the background....but, should it be run manually as well?

thanx again, muchly!

You say you're still getting pop-ups?? Are they random pop-ups,even when your browser is closed or when on a specific web site?? Are the pop-ups pitching anything in particular??

Your log is totally clean.

AVG monitors the system constantly and it will also scan everyday at 1am (as long as the computer is on)
My situation is different because i only use Windows about once a week (if that),but i do a full scan as soon as AVG has updated.

So in short - Computer ON 24/7 - Its automatic
Computer OFF - After booting up and receiving new updates.
