Need your help on solving another issue that one of my friends is having.

Recently he has been experiencing Black Screen + Hard Lock when he gaming.

Operating System - Windows 8.1 64-bit
CPU - Intel Core i7 4770K @ 3.50GHz 30 °C Haswell 22nm Technology
RAM - 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz (10-10-10-27)
Motherboard - ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z87-PRO (SOCKET 1150) 28 °C
Graphics - 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (EVGA) 31 °C
PSU - Seasonic SS-1050XM
Storage - 931GB Western Digital WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 (SATA) 26 °C
              - 111GB Samsung SSD 840 Series (SSD) 28 °C
Steps taken so far
OS Re-installed
IntelBurnTest - 50 Passes on Standard, High and Very High - Passed
Memtest - 14 Passes
HDD - CrystalDiskInfo reports no problems with the drives
BIOS Up To Date
Unigen Valley - Crashes after 15 mins
Furmark - Boots me back to the desktop with a TDR Error
I have a feeling it might be the GPU itself (780ti) I've updated to the latest Nvidia Drivers and same issue persist. I've taken his card out and added a GTX 960 Card and so far no issues (unable to replicate the black screen + lock up with either cards)
I've taken the 780ti and added it to my machine and both Furmark and Unigen Valley work fine (left it running for 4+ hours)
The only thing I can see via BlueScrenViewer is DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL 0x000000c5 ntoskrnl.exe
Can someone kindly take a look at the dump files and let me know what the above BSOD is pointing to and if you guys have any other suggestions on what could be causing the issue?

First off, let's talk about this:

DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL 0x000000c5 ntoskrnl.exe

The first thing that it shows is that a driver caused corruption.  While this is most likely a driver issue, it's possible that hardware is causing problems with the driver.

Next is the 0xc0000005 error - this is an access denied error.  They're most often caused by a driver trying to access something that it wasn't supposed to.

Finally there's the ntoskrnl.exe.  This is the kernel (core) of the operating system.  As such it's protected by a bunch of different protection mechanisms built into Windows.  So it's not likely to be the actual culprit (and, if it was, I'd expect to see many more problems with the system other than the occasional BSOD).  In most cases, this type of error is due to another 3rd party driver (non-Windows) trying to access memory address's that are owned by ntoskrnl.exe.

If Furmark sends you back to the desktop with a TDR error - then it's most likely the video card.

As the errors stopped when you put in another video card - it's most likely the old video card.

It appears that you reinstalled the old card and it's not having problems now?  Is that true?

If that's the case, then it's most likely that there was another problem that affected the video card.

DIrt/dust/hariballs in the cooler?  Blocked airflow?  Bad GPU fan? Overheating?

Here's a troubleshooting guide for TDR errors:  Please follow these troubleshooting suggestions:  http://www.sysnative.com/forums/bsod-kernel-dump-analysis-debugging-information/35-video-tdr-timeout-0x116-0x117.html#post29532
Also, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

On to the BSOD analysis:

BIOS/UEFI (version 2103) dates from 2014.  Check to see if there is a more recent version for your system and update to it.

While at the Asus website, also update any drivers that were released after 17 Oct 2013 (the release date of 8.1).

Also, be sure that you have ALL available Windows Updates.  It may take several trips to get them all.

The lone memory dump blames your video drivers.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

As it appears that you're not currently having a problem with the older card, I'd have to wonder if it's something that you fixed by switching the cards and then switching them back.  I have see similar problems caused by dirt/dust in the slots.

I'd leave it be for now and see if the BSOD's return.

Good luck!
