Hi,have windows XP home edition.I installed nero6.0 and all was fine.I leave my puter on all the time and my power scheme adjusted accordingly.Anyway I had to restart my computer and when it restarted all my desktop icons changed to a windows looking frame. When I went to click on media player icon I got a message stating "windows cannot open this file"...file: windows media player.lnk...To open this file, windows needs to know what program created it ...etc. I can still open these files by opting for select a program from a list. Then browse to find the program. Most of them will open, some say they are missing a file extension ...I.E. windows media player. Is there anyway I can my icons back? I have also tried system restore to an earlier point with no luck.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I believe this is one thing of many that happens when you leave your computer running all of the time. It really should be shut down and then restarted every so often.

What has happened here is the file associations have been lost and getting one or two back is easy but all of them would tend to be a lot of work. I do not know if this will help but you can give it a try and if it does not you can go back to this site and look around for a fix this site is really something else.

ShellIconFix utility repairs the icons
