Hi, Im Umair from kuwait. I had the same problem which the user:matadorM83 had. The topic no was 56746. I have followed the steps given in that forum till post #2. Im not getting sysprotectionpage.com as my homepage anymore & also the popups have reduced. I'll send you my hijackthis log, panda scan report & ewidolog.
Im also getting a note frequently from ewido which is, Malware found: Trojan.dialer.pz. I click on to clean & send it to quarantine.
Im using Zone Alarm which also gives me a note frequently saying infection found, Win32.sillyDI.AGC. Zone Alarm says its treated but it comes again and again.

Im using Win XP Professional & my browser is Internet Explorer.

Hey umzi, welcome to BleepingComputer.

It is a good idea to print off these instructions - they will be needed later when internet access is not available. You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above. It is important that you complete the following instructions in the correct order, and also that you don't miss anything out!

You are missing one important program on that computer: An antivirus.
This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world.
You need to install an antivirus program as soon as you can and run a complete scan of the computer.
AVG, Avira OR Avast are good FREE antivirus.
Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decrease the reliability of it seriously!
Zonealarm, Agnitum Outpost Free OR Kerio are FREE firewalls.
Understanding and using firewalls

* Download smitRem and save the file to your desktop.
Doubleclick it and choose install. This will create a new folder on your desktop with the name smitrem.

* Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Do not run it yet.

* Open hijackthis, click 'config' (bottom right)
Choose the tab 'misc Tools' on top.
Choose 'delete a file on reboot'
In the field, copy and paste next:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winxry32.dll

Click open.
Hijackthis will tell you that this file will be deleted on next reboot and if you want to reboot now.
When asked if you want to reboot now, say Yes.

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5f4c3d09-b3b9-4f88-aa82-31332fee1c08} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hp100.tmp
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winxry32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winxry32.dll
O21 - SSODL: furnariidae - {89e4aaba-3b21-49b3-b922-8ca35193c68e} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\zlara.dll (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

* Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

* Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab > uncheck and delete everything you find in there. (except for "My current home page")

* Reboot back into Windows.

Please post back with the smitrem log and a new Hijackthis log

Hey there Umzi,

These logs are looking much cleaner now.
We've just got a little bit left to do.

* Please delete the following files:
E:\Installationz\WarezP2P_DLC.exe
C:\Program Files\Cowabanga\OINSetup.exe

* Your Java is out of date and the older versions are being exploited by malware. It is the likely cause of your infection, so we need to get it patched up as soon as possible.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
I see you have already run Ewido and Panda scan already,
As these logs are now clean, I would say you ave a safe bill of health.
How do you feel the computer is running?
David

Hey umzi,
Let's try the following:
  • Minimize all programs so that the desktop is shown.
  • Right click on the 'Internet Explorer' icon.
  • Click on 'Properties'
  • A new window will open.
  • Click on the 'Advanced' tab at the top.
  • Under 'Browsing', and tick the option 'Disable script debugging'.
  • Click 'Ok' at the bottom and restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
Please reboot the computer and let me know if the errors still popup.

Hey there Umzi,

about ewido, should i keep it or uninstall it?

The program is a 30day trial so why not keep it untill the end and then delete it.
Glad I could help!
The latest log is looking clean!
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Use an Anti Virus Software -
* It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine.
* This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
* Click here for more information on -> * Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus[
* I would recommend Grisoft's AVG or AVAST.
* These are the more secure and better ones.

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall -
* I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
* Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over.
* Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
* For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
* Click here for more information on -> Computer Safety On line - Software Firewalls
* I would recommend ZoneAlarm as a firewall as it's easy to use.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently -
* It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
* This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
* If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Next, if they're not already present, I would recommend the download and installation of some or all of the following programs (all free), and the updating of them regularly

Install Spybot© - Search and Destroy- Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
* This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection.
* You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software.
* A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
* Click here for more info -->Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware

Install Lavasofts© Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware.
* You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot.
* A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
* Click here for more info -->Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware

Install Javacools© SpywareBlaster -
* SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer and Firefox settings and that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
* A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:
* Click here for more info -->Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

If you have any addition questions just ask...
David
