Hi all

I've got a gaming laptop, and now when I power it up, it boots to a black screen and Windows won't load. I've Googled a bit and find people with similar issues, many saying it has something to do with updating my Nvidia and/or receiving Windows updates.

Any ideas on how to correct this? I've done a full restore once, and after I accepted the Windows updates again, same result. I'd like to be able to receive the updates (mainly so I can get back to Windows 8.1) and update my Nvidia drivers of course.  Right now I have all Windows updating disabled to avoid bricking my machine again.

As you're able to do a full restore, try doing it again - but this time update from the gaming laptop's website first.

Update ALL drivers (FYI - most laptops have switchable graphics - so using drivers directly from nVidia isn't advisable (use those from the laptop's website).

Then try the Windows Updates again.

Do them in batches, and set System Restore points in-between.

Good luck!
