First I want to thank your team once again for freeing my pc from google redirect virus a few weeks ago! Sir I am facing a problem for the past 6 months (even before I got infected with it).

I have a laptope with 2gb 1600 mhz ram and win 7 home basic 64 bits. Whenever I start my pc after about 2-3 minutes it becomes quite unresponsive. At the same time I notice ram usage in the TASK MANAGER reaches upto 97% and stay there for about 10 minutes. during this duration I notice that not only there are several svchost files under the PROCESSES but one of them consumes a lot of memory. After some time the ram usage crashes down to 27% and everything becomes normal. Could you please help me to find whether it is normal or there is some problem with my pc. I use my pc only for checking mails and doing some work on WORD DOCUMENTS ( no games or other resource consuming stuffs).

Recently someone had suggested to replace MICROSOFT SECURITYY ESSENTIAL WITH AVAST. I have done this but I think that the problem is still there. And I even do not know whether it was a right move.

Sir I do not know whether it is write place to ask this type of help. If not please ignore this message.

Regards

sahil

I don't see where any existing process is using more than 40% of RAM...

svchost.exe     Process ID: 4684     User: SYSTEM     Domain: NT AUTHORITY     Path: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe
Memory Usage: 28 MB     Peak Memory Usage: 879 MB

You can use the following tool to examine the processes running:  How to determine what services are running under a SVCHOST.EXE process - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial129.html .

FWIW:  For a person with the minimal amount of RAM...IMO, you are using the worst browser when it comes to RAM usage (Google Chrome).  I've seen systems here that routinely have Chrome RAM usage exceed 1GB.  For a 2GB system...that would probably limit activity, IMO.

Thanks sir, what I have realised that my pc is low on ram. The first step I need is to add more ram.

Sir my problem was the unusual increase of ram usage for a short duration mainly by svchost.exe when I open my pc first time in a day as shown in the picture during which my pc crawls, for the rest of the day its speed is very good as per my usage, though sometimes ram usage increase happens more than once.I was thinking on this line that if it is due to windows update than why don't I set it as MANUALLY as generally my ram usage does not go beyond 70% at most of the time.

Sir someone has told me that we have to buy a ram which suites our system, sir could you please guide me what to take into consideration while buying a new ram so that the issue of incompatibility does not arise.

At present I have a 2gb ram of samsung, can I add a 4gb stick of any other company in the other unused slot without affecting the efficiency(I mean 2gb + 4gb combination is ok or there should be same GBs on both slots)?

Here is a picture of other details of my present RAM:

Regards

sahil

No problem :).

The amount and type of RAM which you can use...is governed by your motherboard.  Specs can be found at http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02770249.pdf , go to Product Description and scroll down to Memory.  You have 2 slots, since it's a notebook you require SODIMMs (as opposed to RAM for desktops) and you can employ the configurations listed.

IME, it generally is not a requirement to have RAM manufactured by the same company today...this used to be a possible problem some years ago but I don't think it's a consideration today.

Yes, you can add a 4GB SODIMM to your current configuration, if that's what you want to do.  Example: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LDLV6S/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687522&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B008LTBM6S&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1PX812HK52V2CQZR5565 .
