I have Win 7, and for the last two days, have had intermittent issues with reaching any Google site.

I've reset my router multiple times, including a complete power off time off of about 10 minutes.

This happens in IE, Chrome, FF, and Opera.  Sometimes I can reach the sites.  I'd estimate it at 20% of the time.  I use Google products heavily for work, and this is my work computer.

I've checked my hosts file.  Nothing is changed there.  I've ran MalwareBytes and Spybot.

I've flushed my DNS.  I can ping and tracert.

Sample from FF:

Secure Connection Failed

The connection to accounts.google.com was interrupted while the page was loading.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

Sample from Opera:

This webpage is not available

The connection to accounts.google.com was interrupted.
Check your internet connection.

Check any cables and reboot any routers, modems, or other network devices you may be using.
Allow Opera to access the network in your firewall or antivirus settings.

If it is already listed as a program allowed to access the network, try removing it from the list and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server...

Check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server: Go to the Opera menu > Settings > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect "Use a proxy server for your LAN".

Otherwise, the computer seems to be running okay. The speeds are maybe a little sluggish, but that may just be in my head from the other issues.

I cannot remember changing anything prior to the trouble starting.

Any and all help is appreciated. :)

  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following:

    • Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    • A 14 day trial of the Premium features is pre-selected. You may deselect this if you wish, and it will not diminish the scanning and removal capabilities of the program.

  • Click Finish.

p22002970.gif Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • If using Windows Vista, 7 or 8 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • Do not reboot until instructed.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.

When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.
Post it in your next reply.

NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

NOTE Do NOT wrap your logs in "quote" or "code" brackets.
Do NOT use spoilers.
Do NOT edit your reply to post additional logs. Create new reply. I'll not get any email notifications about edits so I won't know you posted something new.

Hi,

Thank you so much for your reply.  Requested logs are as follow.  I wanted to say that I was never prompted to reboot during the process, in case that is important.  Also, as I was starting the first rootkit tool that I got a message that said:

aVzMWez.jpg

I wasn't sure, so I clicked no.  Internet also seems overall increasingly sluggish.

Sorry, I just remembered something that I did not put in my intital post.

Before coming here, I tried turning off Avast to see if that was causing my problem.  I was also off my work vpn at the time.

As soon as I turned off Avast, I got a BSOD.  The error was something about pool caller. I have not had it since.  I also have not turned off Avast since.

Mixed. :)

In Opera, I was able to load Gmail relatively quickly.

 In IE, I get:

This page can’t be displayed

•Make sure the web address https://accounts.google.com is correct.
•Look for the page with your search engine.
•Refresh the page in a few minutes.

FF loaded it, but the loading/buffering thing continues to spin

Chrome hangs w/ a "establishing secure connection" msg in the lower left corner of screen

I ran the IE fix.

I got another error message.

  • Make sure the web address https://accounts.google.com is correct.
  • Look for the page with your search engine.
  • Refresh the page in a few minutes.

I did a complete re-install of FF.

Got error messages for both

The connection to accounts.google.com was interrupted while the page was loading.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

I removed Chrome, and attempted a re-install.

That failed.  Error msg is:

Unable to connect to the Internet.  If you use a firewall, please whitelist GoogleUpdate.exe

I tried a few more times, and did finally get Chrome to re-install.

The buffer/refresh wheel is just spinning on the welcome screen w/ that same msg about "establishing a secure connection" in the lower left.

I did as requested w/ Avast, and at the moment, it seems much better.  If you don't mind to leave this open until next week, I'd like to use it like this on a day that I am working to see if I run into any problems.

Should I install something else in the meantime?
