In trying to complete an installation of an HP printer the support people had me make changes in config.sys.    Unfortunately on re-boot my computer now stops at the first screen and hangs there.  I would like to start the computer in order to reverse the changes that they had me make.    There is a key on startup that allows me to go directly to make changes and I don't remember how to do this.

Incidentally the printer installation failed even after their suggestions.

I can't even imagine what a printer has to do with config.sys. Can you start-up your computer and log into system, since you have mentioned that it stops at the first screen. Can you go into safe mode?

My computer will not start;  it hangs and stops at the first screen.  How can I get the computer to start in safe mode?

System manufacturer...and model?

If self-built...do you have a Win XP install disk?

I'll look for the WinXP disk.    If I don't find it,  how can I boot up into safe mode?
