Hi.  I am not real computer savvy.  I'm a 35 yr old court reporter.  About two years ago, I started noticing odd things happening in my network.  Too much to even explain.  So little by little, I became 100 convinced I am either being investigated for something I have no idea what could be about, or a weirdo I met along the way wants to know my business.  For starters, I just have a reg. Comcast account.  Only me and my son in the house.  I started changing Windows Firewall settings one day to block Routing and Remote access.  I went through for about 20 minutes making the corrections.  I X'd out.  Went back in.  All of my settings were deleted.  They were unmarked, or still marked and were changed to only public instead of private, vise versa.  Then I tried again.  And again.  Even blocking certain exceptions.  When I would go back in, the firewall settings would be changed again, but now, in the exceptions, there were new ones...new programs that were not in there before.  CheckpointVPN, Sonic something, F5, Juniper and Wireless Display.  I thought, omg. Where did these things come from.  I did not even know what VPN was until that point.  Then all of my exceptions were greyed, so I could not change them.  So I installed Privacyware.  Same thing happened with Privacyware. I set the system settings to block UPNP, which seemed to be what the person wanted most, port 1900 (which they later somehow changed to 1901 according to Privacyware log).  When I would log off the laptop, the System settings were literally deleted.  I don't mean back to default.  The box, system settings, had zero settings. This happened month after month.  I figured out that blocking the program consent in Privacyware before I logged off someone stopped the settings from being changed.

After this initially happening, I got curious and started paying more attention to thing and looking things up.  I noticed that I used to connect to hsd.nj.Comcast.net.  And all of a sudden, I noticed I was now connecting to something called home.network.  I would reset my router to factory every day to get the settings back to normal, but when I would reset to factory, I would still be assigned the same IP address.  I.E., the first laptop to connect after resetting to factory should be 10.0.0.2.  I would still be 10.0.0.4.  My son would still be 10.0.0.3. Then I got upset so I bought a Netgear router and asked Comcast to put the Technicolor in bridgemode. I did not want anything to do with it.  Well, if it was set to bridge mode, then I could not connect to the Netgear.  I would have to stop the bridge mode.  Then I could connect to Netgear but that defeated the purpose, b/c I still had the Comcast router active.  Now, I am unable to reset my Comcast router period and the technicians have a hard time resetting it to factory on their end.  I cannot reset to factory.  All of the settings stay the same.  And Comcast gets confused when they can't reset it either, but they finally get it reset to factory.  I've been told many times it is strange.  I just bought a new laptop,, a Lenova.  And I gave my son my HP and I said I'm not going to go online with the Lenova. I bought it a week ago.  There is a Lenova One Key recovery where you can make an image and set it on hard disk.  I did that.  Never connected the laptop online ever.  And the exact same thing happened.  The firewall was all changed.  New devices were being added....like Wifi Direct.  And if I deleted Wifi Direct driver, then I could not connect to the internet, even though I was connecting with the Realtek Lan driver, so I thought. I went into the registry and realized a ton of adapters were something like... bind, export route.  For example, this is a paste from one adapter:  Bind settings-----\Device\{15392AE6-F289-4F33-9A16-847E71F54738}

That is just one adapter.  So I used my Lenova One Key recovery I made.  And  noticed that after reinstalling to factory, the settings were not at all what they were when I first bought it.  Like I said, it's only been a week since I bought it.  It is like someone changed the factory settings somehow.  So I got frustrated and did a search for one of the keywords I saw in the log. I forgot what it was.  All of a sudden, my laptop started to download a new user called USERNAME.  I did not name it.  I just let it go.  Then after it installed, oh my gosh.  Everything was completely different.  I was a "remote" server.  I tried installing a driver and it said something like cannot install plug and play on remote network.  I went into the registry and I was shocked.  I made a copy of the registry.  I am still on that setting now. I have not shut it down.  But things are changing out of nowhere in my files and in my registry.  So I started copying things to USB before weird changes were made.  How the changes are being made?  I have no clue.  I am attaching a few things from the logs today, if you could please look and help me understand this.  I am not part of a domain.  I am just a mom with an 11 year old.

These are my logs from today.  Thank you, so much.      (THIS WAS UNDER USERS-PUBLIC TODAY)

I wish I could upload more.

I AM EDITING...I'M NOT SURE MY ATTACHMENTS WENT THROUGH.  I SIGNED IN TWICE AND SAID THE SAME THINGS, MADE THE SAME ATTACHMENTS, AND IT SAID MY KEY OR SOMETHING DID NOT MATCH.  I CAN RELOAD THE ATTACHMENTS IF THEY DID NOT COME THROUGH.  I CLICKED ON THE SAVED CONTENT THAT I NOTICE THE THIRD TRY.

Hi.  I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I just had to backspace an come back and type my reply again.  So Iam going to make it shorter this time.  Long story short, for the last 2 years, odd things have been going on with my laptops at home.  I am just a court stenographer and it's me and my 11 yr old.  We do not know mmuch about these things. But first, we noticed that we wanted to change Windows Firewall settings.  We went to change them, and when we clicked out and back in, all of our settings were immediately replaced.  Not bby defaults.  But unchecked or still checked but only with the private option.  So we tried and tried.  Finding it amusing at first.  But then we realized, in the exceptions box, new programs were now arriving.  Things like Sonicwall, Juniper, CHeckpointVPN and F5 something.  We were shocked.  They were not in the exceptions list or firewall option rules before.  Then they were grayed out, so we couldn't unclick anymore.
So we got more suspicious.  We realized one day that we were connecting to home.network and my parents, who are a block away, connect to hsd.nj.comcast.net.  We did IPConfig and saw that.  I had the networks set to automatically find settings.  So we complained to Comcast.  They told us reset the router.  We would reset to factory, but we noticed that it did reset, b/c it made us change our name on 10.0.0.1 login page, but it kept our same ip addresses.  For instance, I was the first one to sign in with the laptop, when usually, it was my son on his or his xbox.  And I was still 10.0.0.6.  My son was still 10.0.0.3.  So we kept resetting to factory everyday,, b/c it would speed up our connection.  Then one day, it would not allow us to reset to factory any longer.  We called Comcast, and the tried on their end, and it would take them a few trys, and then they'd be able to get it to factory.  They always said, this is strange.  Every time.  So I got a new Comcast router.  And the same thing was happening.  Actually, even with the new Comcast router, I was still the same IP, 10.0.0.4, even though I signed in first and should have been 10.0.0.2.  So I bought a Netgear.  Asked Comcast to put the router in bridgemode.  Well, I could not connect to Netgear if I was put in bridgemode.  Only if I stopped bridge mode could I connect  They told me to call Netgear.  So I gave up.
I downloaded Privacyware, and then the same thing happened. I would change the system settings and block a lot of things automatically set up.  As soon as I logged out and back on, they were deleted.  And I do not mean set to factory.  I mean the folder said zero settings.  I had to click restore to default to get the aautomated settings back to block.  So I purchased a new laptop a week ago.  I said I am not goig online with it.  It's a Lenova.  I came home.  DId not go online.  Set up Lenova one key recovery and then noticed the same things happening.  How can this happen when I didn't even go online???  I did notice that 127.0.0.0 and 0.0.0.0 was automatically online.  So I restored to the factory settings that I made, except they were not the same pre installed windows 8 settings I first had.  I've only had the laptop a week, so it wasn't hard to tell. Today, I did a search to see if I saved any other images other than the initial reset to factory and clicked something called oobe in an odd file.  All of a sudden, it started making me a a new user...but it gave me my name.  It assigned me the name "Username".  I thought.....odd.  Then when I booted into it, omg.  It was 100 percent different.  I was all of a sudden a remote server.  I tried installing a driver and it said something like plug and play does not work on the remote computer. I went into registry....and everything was 100 percent like I've never seen.  This was today.  But as the day went on, things are automatically changing to more familiar settings.  I don't know how, b/c I did not reset or do anything.  I did not know what to attach.  Some things in Windows, I tried clicking on, folders, and it would bring up a command prompt asking if I would allow Flash.  But they were just service folers and folders in windows.  I'd say no, and it would come up again on a different folder but with a different CSID on the bottom of the command asking if It was ok.  So I had to change permissions in the folder, and it stopped and allowed me in.
I am not part of a domain.  But obviously, programs are being added.  I cannot manage my own firewall.  I am always logged in with a temp profile and everything seems to save to Internet Explorer.  I do not understand.  Also, I noticed if I delete VIrtual Wifi adapter, I cannot connect to the realtek Lan.  So I looked I registry and noticed about six different items were something like bind, export, route.  Six items In each ....6 in bind, 6 in route, et cetera....for every adapter.  I attached mostly today's settings b/c they were the oddest....especially since the laptop I just bought last week.
Please help me.  It's been two years now and it's starting to make me nuts.  A lot more strange things have happened, like wifi direct being added or wireless display, and when I try to block on firewall it says my interface does not even support that.  There is a lot more, but I will just ask you to look at what I could pick out.  I'm not a computer savvy person.  Just a 35 yr old mom.  lol.
Ty for the help.

Well, I downloaded a bunch of files, and I know they downloaded, b/c an hour after I made the thread, I re read the files.  Opened them.  read them.  And now, it says cannot be found when you click on the file.  Why would someone take them down?  That's really odd to me.  Anyone?

Hello Tracey, and welcome.

I do hope we can help, but Windows 8 is not allowed to use some diagnostic tools we may require.

Please follow the instructions in the Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide .

  • If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next.
  • In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running "FRST" which will create two logs.

When you have done that, Post your logs (as directed) in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team only.

Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log(s) along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. If you cannot produce any of the required logs , then still start the new topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happened when you tried to create them.
A member of the Malware Removal Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer.

You can link this post @ #1 if you wish to show your work to the Experts...

After doing this, please reply back in this thread with a link to the new topic so we can close this one, to prevent others answering incorrectly.

I think this is your best idea, as we do not want people who are not experienced "playing" with your details

Thank You - and Good Luck..
