Hello,

I posted a while ago in the malware section about my C: drive filling up by itself with nothing downloading. However, they told me after going through some steps to analyze my computer that it was not malware, and it was likely that it was hardware. The way my computer is set up is I have my OS on my SSD and everything else on a 2TB regular drive. It is a Corsair 80GB solid state running Windows 7 Enterprise. It is getting to the point to where certain applications that I have on the C: drive will not update because of lack of space. Thank you!

You state that the drive is filling on its own. What is it filling with? Are there folder/file names? Can you provide more detail about when this happens?

Windows won't function as it should...if the C: partition does not have approximately 15% of the partition as free space.

Win 7 itself would account for 20-35GB of the space, by my estimate.  What else is reflected on the Windows partition, other than Installed Programs?

I would also like you to reduce the amount of space you have allocated to System Restore...see http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/5482/make-system-restore-use-less-space-in-windows-7/ .  See if your free space on C: adjusts itself downward after eliminating old SR items.

I tried to reduce the Disk Space Usage amount for system protection, but it is already at 0 bytes. The other things I have installed on my C: drive are basic things such as Adobe Reader 11.0, Google Chrome, Java, Microsoft Office, and my NVIDIA graphics drivers. Other than that, I am not seeing anything out of the ordinary.

Download WinDirStat , install following directions.

Open it, run it on the Windows partition.

Take a screen shot so that the screen reflects the 5 largest space-users...post it in your next post.

See instructions by dc3, A Thousand Words, Screenshots - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/515817/ram-showing-less-than-installed/?p=3222150 .

I would take a close look at the detail in the Windows folder (looks way too large for me) and the Files folder.

My Win 7 Windows folder is 24GB, fully updated with all critical updates.  I don't enable System Restore.

It would seem that you have System Restore possibly running wild, IMO.

I don't have any restore points created in System Restore. Other than that, I am not sure what I would be looking for to spot oddities.

I would like a screen shot of winDirStat showing the windows folder only expand the windows folder inside windirstat.

Install or download the zip folder of CCleaner run the cleaner portion only. Also run Disk Cleanup

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds- download zip extract and run .exe

Weird thing I found, is when I did Disk Cleanup, nothing looked off. But when I hit Clean system files, it had 5.79GB worth of Windows Update Cleanup. Went right back in there afterwards, same amount of information in Windows Update Cleanup. Thoughts?

So your saying you run Disk Cleanup and you clean it and it reverted back?

Windows Update cleanup- Is old windows update installations files that in theory that didn't get deleted successfully after installation.

Is your computer fully updated and do you have pending updates to installed..

If your Windows folder is bigger then normal that could be it.

I tried to check for updates, but it errored saying the service was not on. I checked my active services and it was there, it would not let me close it, it said, "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied." My account is the local administrator.
