Hi, all! I've had a strange, recurring issue for the past few months. It only has happened three times, and I can't reproduce it. Nothing appears in the event log after this occurs, other than the usual kernel power error from the computer turning off.
This doesn't happen during intensive activities, just regular browsing. What happens is I lose display, and the (empty) disc tray begins to open and close while the computer attempts to reboot repeatedly. I then turn off the power supply, and my motherboard produces code 55-- memory not installed. I bring the computer into the kitchen to work on it, and the moment I plug it in and try turning it on in there, it's fine. I bring it back into my room and use it as normal, until this happens again like a month later.
I've run an overnight memtest and it comes up clean. Same for chkdsk. I'm not getting any regular bluescreens-- while I know that they've occurred in my 3-year-old machine's lifespan, they were unreemarkable one-offs. Things (connectors, mem sticks, graphics card) are re-seated occasionally while dusting, but nothing seems to be connected improperly, especially since the computer functions as intended 99% of the time.
I really have no idea what is happening. I don't have any spare equipment available to swap in and out. Is there any way I can figure out what's going on here?
