I have an Acer Aspire V 14 Touch. Recently, every time I restart my computer, the screen backlight flashes for a random amount of time, from a few seconds to a few minutes. This is before the initial bios screen and I can't get any response out of the computer while this is happening. It seems like the computer is attempting to boot and failing until it finally starts up. The same issue happens when starting up after hibernating, but not after sleeping. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the system is waiting for something to happen, and it finally gives up after some benchmark point is reached.

I'd update your BIOS/UEFI and see if that helps.

Another thing to try is to remove the battery and AC Adapter.

Then hold down the power button for 30 seconds

Then put the battery and power cord back in and see if that has helped clear things out.

Good luck!

Thanks for responding. I tried removing the battery and holding the power button first because it seemed a lot easier. The first time I booted up, it only flashed once; but since this didn't fix the problem for subsequent boots, I think it was just coincidental.
I was looking into updating the bios, but I'm not sure what the motherboard is, and the page on acer's website is down so I can't get the update from there. My computer is an Acer aspire v3-472p-324j.

Thanks. Just to confirm, all I need to do is run the .exe and not touch the computer until it's done. True?

I haven't tried it, but that's how it usually works.

Sometimes you have to reboot, and sometimes you have to restart the computer (it shuts down after flashing, but doesn't reboot).

It appears to work fine now. Thanks much!
On the initial automatic restart, the screen started flashing as usual, but on my next restart, it started immediately. I then tried a full shutdown and it again started immediately. It seems like the issue is gone.
