Start by opening services.msc and seeing if Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint are running and that the services are set to Automatic.

If you have other audio stuff installed, this may be interfering with it - so let us know what's installed (both hardware and software audio stuff).

GREETINGS,

IN SERVICES WINDOWS AUDIO END POINT BUILDER IS RUNNING.

WINDOWS AUDIO SAYS "STOPPED", AND WHEN I TRY TO START IT IT JUMPS RIGHT BACK TO STOPPED :smash:

BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, I RAN A WHOLE COMPUTER SCAN WITH AVG.

IT REMOVED TWO ITEMS. SOME GENERIC THING.

I THEN UPDATED SOMETHING CALLED AMD RADEON HD 8400. IN DEVICE MANAGER THERE IS A YELLOW QUESTION MARK ON THAT ITEM.

There is a problem with the Windows Audio service - that's the problem that you saw when running the troubleshooter.

Where did you update the AMD Radeon HD8400 from?  The PC manufacturer's website, or from the AMD website?

What's the make and model of your system?

Start with this (aimed at fixing the Windows Audio service - not the device manager thing):

Then please run the following DISM commands to see if there's any problems with the system (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt).  Press Enter after each one:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

FYI - I have repaired systems using the last command even though problems weren't found with the first 2 - so I suggest running them all.

From this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824869.aspx

You can also run sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt to check for further corruption.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I WILL TRY AND RUN ALL AS SUGGESTED

THE UPDATE WAS FROM A DRIVER BOOSTER PROGRAM THAT TELLS YOU WHAT DRIVERS HAVE TO BE UPDATED.

I HAVE SOLVED THAT YELLOW TAG PROBLEM BY ROLLING BACK THE DRIVER.

NOW, LET ME SEE IF I CAN RUN THESE COMMANDS.

OHH, I HAVE A TOSHIBA SATELLITE C55DT-A5306 WIN 8 AND 8.1

Hi -

Part of the problem may be that you seem to have CapsLock pressed down all of the time, and you can only reply in CAPITAL LETTERS ...

OHH, I HAVE A TOSHIBA SATELLITE C55DT-A5306 WIN 8 AND 8.1

Unless you have 2 computers, you have either Windows 8 or Win 8.1, as 8.1 is the upgraded current version..

If you had capitals Locked on with your commands, it "can" produce  another result than required (computers are funny like that,)

Just a side answer to try and help you -
