I have been having this problem for over 2 years and have never been able to figure out what the problem is. If I start up my Windows8 laptop and use something that uses sound right away, I'm fine. If I don't get around to using my sound until several minutes later, there is no sound and when I investigate it says another application is already using the sound, but I can never figure out what application has hijacked my sound. I thought I had solved the problem last night when I uninstalled the sound drivers. I expected to notified that new hardware had been found when I rebooted the computer, but I was not so notified. Instead, my sound worked and even though I left my sound alone for an hour, I still had sound after an hour. When I checked, it showed different items under the sound (device manager) than what I had uninstalled.

I was disappointed this morning to learn that once again, if I did not use sound right away after starting my laptop, I had none. I checked device manager and still had the same items under sound as when I had shut my computer down the previous evening. I'm thinking of uninstalling these drivers and see what I get when I reboot, but not sure if it will help or if it's the right thing to do. Anyone else experience this sound hijacking that I am?
