Hi guys, firstly I'll just say I've been using this site for several years now to help me out and have found it very useful. I have posted this in the Windows 7 forum as it seems to be a problem specific to this OS. Sorry if it should be somewhere else.
About three months back I built a new system based on Windows 7 Pro x64. It has been generally excellent, apart from a persistent but unpredictable loss of internet.
I first noticed it after a few days when I would randomly lose connection to online games. I just put it down to a bad server or ISP dropping my connection, but notably other Internet devices in my house did not appear to be suffering.
Once I was kicked back to my desktop and saw that the Windows network icon on the taskbar had a yellow exclamation mark, as soon as I saw it it disappeared and my internet connection was fine again.
Since then it has recurred many times but the pattern is not predictable in any way. Sometimes it will be a week, but I haven't been gaming as much recently and I guess it's less noticeable when browsing. Typically I'll be browsing and notice that the page isn't loading, then I'll see the yellow exclamation mark. Usually if I just leave it 30 seconds or so it sorts itself out. On one occasion it didn't, but disabling and enabling the network adapter did the trick.
Things I have tried:
3x NICs (onboard PCIE Realtek LAN, PCI Realtek LAN card, and Intel PCI LAN card)
Uninstalling Bonjour service
Removing IPV6 using Microsoft Fix It app
Flushing DNS cache
I have checked the event viewer and there are many DNS Client Events 1014 errors, going right back to when I built the system. I have only just discovered this, but from memory I can associate a few of the dates and times to events where I lost internet.
If anyone can help me out here this would be great because it's driving me nuts and I would hate to have to go back to Vista for some crappy issue like this.
